REGULAR_ MEETING MAY 29, 1973 <br />IIREGULAR MEETING - RECONVENED <br />Be it remembered that the regular meeting of the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />reconvened in the Council Chambers at 8:03 p.m., Council President Peter J. Nemeth presiding and <br />eight members present and one member absent. <br />Council President Nemeth also expressed his appreciation to Mr. Richardson for the fine work he h <br />done and the help and assistance he has given the Council. Mr. James Roemer, City Attorney, also <br />indicated that he wanted to say a few words concerning Mr. Richardson's resignation. He also <br />expressed appreciation on behalf of everyone who has worked with Mr. Richardson, and he indicated <br />that everyone was very reluctant to let him go. He mentioned that Mr. Richardson always handled <br />himself very well and did a very thorough job in his work. He indicated that it would be hard on <br />those persons left to handle the projects that he started. He thanked Mr. Richardson for his <br />seven years and many hours of service to the city and for the "guff" he has taken in the past on <br />many projects. <br />IIREPORT FROM THE COMMITTEE ON MINUTES <br />Your committee on the inspection and supervision of the minutes would respectfully report that <br />they have inspected the minutes of the May 14, 1973, regular meeting of the Council and found them <br />correct. They, therefore, recommend that the same be approved. <br />s/ Peter J. Nemeth <br />(Councilman Taylor made a motion that the report be accepted as read and placed on file and the <br />minutes be approved, seconded by Councilman Horvath. The motion carried. <br />IIREPORT FROM COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />Councilman Taylor made a motion to waive the reading of the report of the Committee of the Whole, <br />seconded by Councilman Parent. The motion carried by a roll call vote of eight ayes (Councilmen <br />Serge, Szymkowiak, Miller, Parent, Taylor, Horvath, Newburn and Nemeth) with Councilman Kopczynski <br />absent. <br />IIREPORT FROM AREA PLAN COMMISSION (3027 McKINLEY AVENUE REZONING) <br />The Honorable Common Council <br />City of South Bend <br />County -City Building <br />South Bend, Indiana <br />In Re: A proposed ordinance <br />from "A" Residential <br />Avenue, City of South <br />Gentlemen: <br />and site development plan of Larry L. Nifong to zone <br />to "B" Residential, property located at 3027 McKinley <br />Bend <br />The attached rezoning petition of Larry L. Nifong was legally advertised <br />May 5, 1973, and May 12, 1973. The Area Plan Commission gave it a public hearing <br />May 15, 1973, at which time the following action was taken: <br />"A motion by Ted Sharp to recommend this petition favorably to <br />the City Council was seconded by Russell Rothermel and carried <br />with Roger Parent abstaining. The petition of Larry L. Nifong <br />to zone from "A" Residential to "B" Residential, property located <br />at 3027 McKinley Avenue, is favorably recommended to the Common <br />Council of the City of South Bend by the Area Plan Commission. <br />The deliberations of the Area Plan Commission and points considered in arriving <br />at the above decision are shown in excerpts of the minutes and will be forwarded to you <br />at a later date to be made a part of this report. <br />RSJ /ch <br />attach. <br />cc: Jack C. Johnson <br />Acting Director` <br />Councilman Parent made a motion that the ordinance referred to in the report be set for public <br />hearing and second reading on June 11, 1973, at 7:00 p.m., seconded by Councilman Taylor. The <br />motion carried. <br />IIREPORT FROM DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Council President Nemeth announced that he had received a letter from Mr. Gallagher stating that he <br />had another commitment and might not possibly be able to give his quarterly report to the Council. <br />Councilman Newburn made a motion to waive the report of the Director of Public Safety, seconded by <br />Councilman Taylor.
