AMERESCO Energy Solutions
m For Every Need
Ameresco's Valued Approach I Immediate and Long Term
Ameresco's experience as an ESCO contractor and owner/operator allows us to create a project for South Bend that not
only provides best value today but also ensures value into the future by considering future operating needs and costs. This
includes incorporating the following aspects in the project design:
• Design to minimize life cycle costs, not to minimize initial costs.
• Design for resiliency and redundancy.
• Train for long term operation.
• We continuously add value with skilled measurement & verification of savings and operations & maintenance
services to ensure savings are achieved and persist.
• Our vendor and technology neutral approach ensure the best solution for each customer and each project.
General Project Approach I Comprehensive Vendor -Neutral Analysis
System Design I Right Size Distribution Systems
Our dedicated renewable energy team works with customers to right -size distributed generation solutions to balance or
offset reliance on the grid and maximize the sustainability and financial benefits of renewable energy, battery storage,
and advanced energy controls. Due to the relatively small available rooftop area, the maximum system size would likely
not produce more energy than the building could consume, so we focused on maximizing the system size. At the Central
Fire Station this included recommending relocating the walking paths during the roof replacement to the exterior edges
instead of the center of the roof to allow longer rows of panels to be installed. It also included adding panels to the
northern roof section, as the optimizers being installed increase production in partially shaded areas, making these areas
feasible for solar arrays. At the MLK Dream Center, enlarging the system included using the southern roof areas as well
as the northeastern roof area. At this time, we assumed that the northwestern roof area did not have the structural
capacity to support the weight of solar panels as this area is an overhang, but we will investigate this during final design.
Ameresco recommends installing a 110.2kW-DC/100kW-AC fixed tilt rooftop solar array that is expected to produce
132,901 kWh in year one at the Central Fire Station and 118.8kW-DC/100kW-AC fixed tilt rooftop solar array that is
expected to produce 146,524.2kWh in year one at the MLK Dream Center. Based on the data provided, the expected
solar production at the Central Fire Station will offset about 29% of the facility's electric usage and will likely be able to be
completely utilized onsite.
Upon contract award, Ameresco will conduct visits to confirm the ability to install the solar panels as laid out, to collect
further structural and electric information about the buildings, and determine if additional measures can be incorporated
into the project.
Utility Interconnection Application & Permitting I Extensive Experience
We have extensive experience with navigating interconnection. The process is typically a critical path item in most
distributed generation projects. Upon Notice to Proceed, Ameresco will begin the design drawings to submit an
interconnection application to Indiana Michigan Power. The proposed project is based on connecting behind the meter at
both facilities.
Procurement I High Quality Materials
A high -quality material and well thought out design is crucial to the success of a solar photovoltaic array, which can
effectively produce electricity for upwards of 30 years. Prioritization of proven quality materials and significant warranty are
key components for material selection. Ameresco regularly installs PV modules from Tier I manufacturers for both
customer and Ameresco owned projects. Ameresco recommends products from Tier I suppliers to ensure manufacturer
longevity so that the warranty can be upheld for the term's duration. Due to the volume of projects we install, we are able
City of South Bend, IN I Department of Public Works I RFQ Guaranteed Energy Savings Contract SBCFS & MLK Center
