Basement bathroom
Vision
There was no bathroom at the time of purchase. This enhancement
became logical when the lower bedroom was conceptualized. There
were two doors into the northwest room that became the bedroom, and
it was quite large. A full bath was determined to be plausible. A
shower, stool and single sink vanity, all in period style were designed.
Process
Over the course of 3 weeks 12 months ago, this work was completed at
the same time as the egress window in order to create common dust. A
lift pump would carry water and solids to the adjacent main septic pipe
(which was showing corrosion, so we changed out a section with PVC
and raised it to provide more head room in the den adjacent to this
bathroom. An antique cabinet was converted into a bowl -top vintage
style vanity and plumbed from the adjacent utility room through
existing fenestrations in the existing lower level brick wall. Tile of
earth tones and white were selected, choosing again to avoid anything
pre -fab. The original door to the bedroom was kept as
the bathroom door, adding a slide latch. The room has
an exhaust fan as well, electric follows code of
requiring GFI outlets where appropriate. The lift
pump is behind the curved portion of the wall between
the bathroom and bedroom (see bedroom image) with
a hidden access door for servicing.
