Joann Sporleder abstains because
she will be absent and will not be able to attend
MARTHA CHOTTZ: Is there any interest at all in going ahead with replacement of the old
sidewalk?
JOHN OXIAN: I move that the sidewalk be approved as recommended by staff.
JOANN SPORLEDER: Seconds the motion and it passes unanimously.
4. 2003-0515-2: 1043 Riverside Drive; Extensive garage "repair, including the
following:
1. Replace in kind broken siding boards
2. Remove and replace broken roof, flashing, and overhang
3. Repair or replace broken sliding door
KAREN HAMMOND NASH: (See attached Staff Report).
ERIC ROSI-MARSHALL: (Was present with contractor Amanda Cragen, (Cragen Construction),
to answer questions from commission members.
JOANN SPORLEDER: What exactly is the proposed work that is to be done?
KAREN HAMMOND-NASH: The work that is being proposed is that the fallen -in -roof be
removed and hauled off to a dump and that a new roof be built, (roof, soffits, and overhangs).
ERIC ROSI-MARSHALL: The new roof will be a hip -roof. Wayne Doolittle came out and looked
at it, and so did a number of contractors. It seems that originally this was a three-fourths hip -roof.
Then someone came along and took out the center ridge beam and installed some kind of gable or
cupola, which may be referred to as a birdhouse, which essentially has vents. I do not know why
the garage would need to be vented by a gable that -was- added on. This undermines the whole
structure of the roof. None of the corner beams are pointing in correctly. So, we wanted to
eliminate that gable that was added on and just restore it to a simple hip -roof.
AMANDA CRAGEN: The roof right now is just pushing down on the walls of the garage. Not
only. is the roof falling in; but; the whole garage is just being pushed apart by
the roof.
JOANN SPORLEDER: How seriously out of plumb are the walls?
AMANDA CRAGEN: They are bad. My plan is to rip off the roof and then straighten the walls
back up and secure them. In the framing, the garage headers are pretty non- existent. I was
planning on going back through and bringing everything a little more up to snuff. I intend to
straighten up the walls of the garage as much as possible and then put a new roof on.
ERIC ROSI-MARSHALL: Also, we are going to be adding a second top plate as well; because, it
currently has only a female top plate.
A!
