Mrs. DesLauriers continued to express the frustration her neighborhood was
feeling. Mrs. DesLauriers also noted that she often experiences vulgar
language coming from the Madison Center. Mr. Oxian stated that he would put
Julia and her concerns about the wall on the Water Works agenda for their
meeting on the first Tuesday in September. He also noted that Ed Talley was
assigned to handle the noise problem with the Madison Center. Martha Choitz
stated that a letter should go out to the Madison Center, Parks Department and
the Water Works from the commission notifying them of the complaints the
commission is receiving. There was some discussion over who owned the island
wall and who was responsible for its up keep. Mr. Oxian agreed that sending
letters would be a good idea. Don Sporleder interjected, as president of
Michiana Watershed, that they were also very -concerned about the island's
erosion. He stated that the Michiana Watershed would put forth its full
support to see something done to remedy the problem. Don Sporleder then
brought up the possibility of making the walkway in Leeper Park extend under
the bridge for safer crossing. There was further discussion over the island's
erosion problem and the possibility of getting funding from the Army Corps of,
Engineers. Mr. Duvall mentioned a conversation he had with John Hosinski
about making a presentation to the 'commission on next Mondays meeting or
sometime after to discuss the possibility of placing signs indicating
pedestrian walkways. Then there was some discussion over the path of the
walkway.
Mr. Duvall noted, regarding the Darden Bridge, that he had called Rollin
Ferrand last week to inquire what could be expected in regard to repairing the
handrails. Mr. Ferrand said he was not sure they would repair them. He
understood it that people had shaken the handrails loose and that the
• handrails only needed to be tightened. He said he would have his engineering
fellow get back with Mr. Duvall to discuss their schedule. Mr. Duvall noted
that he has not heaard anything more about it.
Julia DesLauriers stated that in February Mr. Duvall had written a letter to
Mr. Foresticri regarding condominium development on Niles Avenue. She
wondered if they were going to develop the west as they had done with the east
side. She noted that it sounds as if plans are in the works but no permits
have been issued. Mr. Duvall noted that Mr. Foresticri indicated that he
would be happy to address any forum that invited him, about their- concerns
.pertaining to his plans. There was some discussion over if the west side
would be developed or not and how they would develop it. Mr. Oxian stated
that a meeting should be set up now to discuss questions and concerns that
anyone may have, before it all gets started.
Mr. Duvall noted that there is a meeting Wednesday to discuss preserving
portions of Lincolnway West. He also reported that there is a Friday morning
meeting of the Courthouse Corporation to discuss development of the second
County Courthouse. Mr. .Duvall further mentioned that he has an appointment on
the twenty seventh to meet with a consultant who is working with MACOG to
discuss the commissions' needs for the Geographic Information Systems.
VIII. Announcements & Miscellaneous Matters
none
IX. Adjournment
The meeting was adjourned at 9:30 p.m.
•
