I
• B. Treasurers Report
The Treasurer made no report.
C. Correspondence
Mr. Duvall indicated that items of interest had been received as follows:
1) The renewal of National Trust Forum membership has resulted in a new
password being provided to their website.
D. Committee Reports
1. Budget & Finance
Mr. Wiener indicated that there was no report for this month.
3. Legal
no report
4. Historic Districts
Mrs. Choitz indicated that one meeting had been held and a second proposed
with focus on liaison committee concerns and three year plans.
5. Historic Landmarks
A) Mr. Oxian reported that the recommendation for 534 LaPorte has been
withdrawn by letter to the Common Council. The nomination for 3418 Mishawaka
Avenue met with owner opposition at the Common Council committee hearing and
was therefore tabled by the council until such time as other Lustron owners
may be notified. Mr. Duvall reported that 30750 till required thorough survey
• before sending its nomination to the County Council.
B) Leeper Park Proposal
Mr. Oxian postponed discussion of Leeper park until later in the agenda.
C) 16581 Chandler Blvd
Mr. Oxian indicated that this recommendation could be acted upon as there was
owner consent. The Owner, Mr. DeKever who was present made a brief
presentation on the history of the house which was constructed by the WPA in
1938 as a residence for the keeper of the Mishawaka Reservoir. The building
has this year been relocated to its present site to avert demolition. Mr.
Talley moved that the commission recommend the building to the County Council
for designation as a Local Landmark. Mr. Borkowski seconded the motion. The
motion was approved unanimously.
D) Mr. Oxian indicated that this would be the first reading for Landmark
designation of the former South Bend Remedy Co. building at 501 West Colfax
St.
E) Mr. Talley next reported on the Proposed recommendation for designation of
Leeper Park. He has met with Betsy Harriman to review the revisions made to
the proposed standards. These are to have been presented to the Parks Board at
their meeting today.
Mrs. Choitz inquired about a landscaping standard that had been developed for
the commission by Joanne Sporleder. Though some members recalled her working
on such a document, no-one knew where it could be found and Mr. Oxian was
• quite sure that it had never been adopted.
Mr. Talley noted that these standards presently under consideration had been
developed in a generic form with a set being made site specific to Leeper
Park.
6.
