1) Required
Additions that would add new height or change the
existing facade of a building and change its scale and
architectural character shall not be constructed.
B. Buildinq Materials
1) Required
Materials used on an addition to an existing structure
shall relate to the existing or original materials of
the structure.
C. Accessory Buildings
1) Required
Accessory buildings shall be located at the rear of
residences and as unobtrusively as possible while
preserving the historical relationships between the
building, landscape features, and open spaces.
Proportions and materials shall conform to those
required for New Construction (see A-1 and B-1).
2 ) Recommended
Accessory building designs should be compatible in
character and mood to the residences and the
neighborhood.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The property at 1323 E.W.N. was developed in 1963 and is
subsequently considered a non-contributing resource. However,
the building mass and materials are compatible with adjacent
homes considered as contributing resources. Decisions regarding
the proposed changes should be seen in this context.
1) The existing rear fence has little historic and architectural
value. Its replacement should be permitted. However, the
adhering of fragments of the existing wood fence to a 6" block
wall may be problematic. It is important that the rough masonry
to be used not be visible as it could prove unsightly. Facing
with brick to match house as proposed on the driveway side of the
west wall should be applied in all visible sections of the block
fence.
2) Reconstruction of the pool shed as proposed would have no
detrimental impact on the district environment.
3) The staff recommends against the
port as it is a unique treatment of
neighborhood. This element of the
historic significance.
-- James V. Pastor
Staff, Historic Preservation
enclosure of the existing car
automobile storage in the
property has potential
