The proposal for re -roofing is an in-kind replacement
and is a staff approval item.
Part IA.) Ridge vents as per the submitted specification are
sympathetic to the building's aesthetic character.
Part IB.) The chimney does not appear to be in need of repair
from street level. It should be tuck pointed only if a closer
examination does yield/has yielded deterioration. Any repointing
should not done with a mortar of high Portland cement content.
Part II.) The standards prohibit the alteration of "the
essential character of the roof as viewed from the thoroughfare.
The proposed dormers, however, are sympathetic to existing
materials and building style, and thus minimally compromise the
building's aesthetic integrity. From the standpoint of historic
integrity, the building, heavily altered to date, may benefit
from the addition of stylistically correct dormers.
