Correspondence <br />Ms. Peck introduced Mary Trevino, the Commission's new secre- <br />tary -receptionist. <br />Ms. Peck wrote to the County Commissioner's requesting an <br />Selectric typewriter. No response as of yet. <br />The Commission received a letter from Richard Gantz, Assistant <br />SHPO, Division of Museums and Memorials, Indianapolis, announcing <br />that the Department of Natural Resources was going to help us with <br />a $12,000. grant from the Department of the Inerior, for the City <br />Survey. This grant would match the $12,000 already expended for the <br />City Survey, and we were to decide whether to accept it or not. Re- <br />ferred to City Survey Committee. <br />Ms. Peck wrote to Mr. Gantz concerning the Department of the <br />Interior grant to confirm that it was O.K. to match Department of the <br />Interior and C.D. funds, No reply as of yet. <br />The Commission recieved a letter from the Indiana Arts Commission. <br />They are having a conference concerning the writing of grants and the <br />whole technical part of the grant program; how to do it, how to say <br />it, and things like this. Ms. Price said she'll be going down (to <br />Indianapolis). <br />478 6. Committee Reports <br />1. City Survey <br />Ms. Price asked how much of the communication from committee <br />• meetings did the Commission want duplicated for all the Commission <br />members. No response was given. <br />Ms. Price reported that the Commission received an allotment <br />from the state and that the committee met with the consultants who <br />performed last year (Crumlish/Sporleder & Associates). She read a <br />committee report (attached) and a letter of offer to the consultants, <br />dated April 17, 1978: Crumlish/Sporleder & Associates, Dear Brian: <br />"According to our City Survey Guidelines, the firm originally chosen <br />by the Historic Preservation Commission to conduct the architectural/ <br />historical City Survey of South Bend, will receive first option to <br />complete the survey when further funding is received. In the recent <br />discussion we have had with your firm, vie spoke of the work that needs <br />to be done to complete the City Survey thereby satisfying the state <br />and local planning requirements as to where significant structures and <br />districts are located. The following three phases were mentioned. 1. <br />Complete windshield survey of .all land that is under our jurisdiction, <br />identifying all superior structures, and districts, and completing a <br />local survey card, map, and photo of each. 2. Complete a detailed <br />survey and inventory of the area within the 1875 City limits. 3. <br />Complete a detailed survey and inventory of the area within the 1925 <br />City .limits with the exact amount of detail and area to be agreed <br />to in advance. We would like you to submit cost figures on these <br />phases in the event that funds become available. If possible, we <br />would like the figures before our next Commission meeting, Tuesday, <br />April 25, 1978. Thank you for your cooperation, and we look forward <br />to hearing from you.
