REGULAR MEETING December 9, 2019 <br />CELEBRATE THE DEDICATION AND <br />COMMITMENT OF JOHN VOORDE TO THE <br />CITY. <br />Councilmember Tim Scott stated, Resolution 4839-19. A special resolution awarded by the South <br />Bend Common Council to celebrate the dedication and commitment of John Voorde to the City. <br />Whereas, John Voorde has been a public servant of the City of South Bend for the past 40 years, <br />serving in a variety of capacities such as Councilmember At -Large, City Clerk and Portage <br />Township Assessor; and, Whereas, one of John's first ventures into social media demonstrated his <br />pride in stating "Started New Job at City of South Bend, January 1980"; and, Whereas, if years of <br />dedicated service leads to wisdom, John is both Methuselah and Solomon among the City's public <br />servants; and, Whereas, during his most recent term with the Common Council, John served as <br />Chairperson for the Public Works & Property Vacation Committee, Vice -Chairperson for the <br />Health & Public Safety Committee and Zoning & Annexation Committee in addition to being a <br />member f the Residential Neighborhood, PARC and Personnel & Finance Committees; and, <br />Whereas, throughout his entire tenure with the City, in whatever capacity, John has sought to make <br />City of South Bend a safe and inclusive place for all its residents. <br />Councilmember Tim Scott continued, Now, therefore, be it Proclaimed by the Common Council <br />Members: Section One (I). On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, and the <br />Members of the South Bend Common Council, I am pleased to publicly recognize and honor John <br />Voorde for his dedication and work on behalf of the residents of South Bend. Section Two (I). <br />You will always be appreciated. Councilmember Karen <br />White seconded this motion which carried by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes. <br />19-87 A SPECIAL RESOLUTION AWARDED BY THE <br />SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL TO <br />CELEBRATE THE DEDICATION AND <br />COMMITMENT OF GAVIN FERLIC TO THE <br />CITY. <br />Councilmember Dr. Oliver Davis made a motion to suspend the rules and just read this resolution <br />into public record and forgo the pubic portion. Councilmember Karen White seconded this motion <br />which carried by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes. <br />Councilmember Tim Scott stated, Resolution 4840-19. Mr. Gavin Ferlic could not be here tonight, <br />and he sends his regrets. A special resolution awarded by the South Bend Common Council to <br />celebrate the dedication and commitment of Gavin Ferlic to the City. Whereas, Gavin Ferlic was <br />born and raised in South Bend, Indiana and is widely recognized as one of the City's most <br />promising young leaders; and, Whereas, Gavin's two terms as an At -Large Councilman have been <br />marked by his dedication to economic development and neighborhood improvement initiatives; <br />and, Whereas, among Gavin's several notable accomplishments during his tenure as a Councilman, <br />in 2012, Gavin was a co-sponsor of the City's LGBT equality ordinance — which added sexual <br />orientation and gender identity to the City's existing anti -discrimination laws in the areas of <br />Ri <br />
