REGULAR MEETING December 9, 2019 <br />Councilmember Jake Teshka made a motion to adopt Bill No. 19-84. Councilmember Karen White <br />seconded this motion which carried by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes. <br />19-85 A SPECIAL RESOLUTION AWARDED BY THE <br />SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL TO <br />CELEBRATE THE DEDICATION AND <br />COMMITMENT OF DR. OLIVER DAVIS TO <br />THE CITY. <br />Councilmember Karen White stated, A special resolution awarded by the South Bend Common <br />Council to celebrate the dedication and commitment of Dr. Oliver Davis to the City. Whereas, Dr. <br />Oliver Davis has worked tirelessly to represent the people of South Bend. He has been giving back <br />to his community even before serving on the Common Council. For over twenty-seven (27) years <br />Oliver has worked in the profession of social work by serving as a Social Work Educator for many <br />centers of learning such as Indiana University South Bend, and the South Bend Community School <br />Corporation; and, Whereas, Oliver was first (Is') elected to serve on the Common Council in 2007 <br />and has been serving for a total of twelve (12) years. During his time with the Council, Oliver has <br />served as both President and Vice -President of the Council. Oliver has also served as chairperson <br />of the Zoning & Annexation Committee, and Vice -Chairperson of the Utilities Committee. He is <br />also a Commissioner on the Area Plan Commission and a Member & Past President of the <br />TRANSPO (South Bend Public Transportation Board of Directors) for the past thirteen (13) years; <br />and, Whereas, Oliver's dedication has not been limited to the members of his beloved 61h District. <br />Oliver has also championed causes designed to serve the needs of the City's most vulnerable <br />residents wherever they live; and, Whereas, throughout his time on the Common Council, Oliver <br />has continued to see the 6th District grow and revive as a strong economic region. Oliver has <br />continually proven to be a leader who has helped strengthen our City and has earned the respect <br />and affection of people from all walks of life and all ages. <br />Councilmember Karen White continued, Now, therefore, be it Proclaimed by the Common Council <br />Members as follows: Section One M. On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana, <br />and the Members of the South Bend Common Council, we are pleased to publicly recognize and <br />honor Dr. Oliver Davis for his dedication and work on behalf of the residents of South Bend. <br />Section Two II). Those residents look forward to your continued involvement and leadership in <br />the City in whatever position you choose in the next phase of your community involvement.
