<br />The Council thanked Councilmember Regina Williams -Preston for her dedication and service.
<br />Councilmember Regina Williams -Preston thanked the entire Council for her special resolution.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and
<br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard.
<br />Bernardo Malone, 721 Cushing Street, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Samuel Brown, 222 Navarre Street, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Jesse Davis, P. O. Box 10205, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Jay Ginger, 211 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Sharon Banicki, 3822 Ford Street, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Linda Wolfson, 809 Park Avenue, South Bend, IN spoke in favor of Bill No. 19-83.
<br />Councilmember Dr. Oliver Davis made a motion to adopt Bill No. 19-83. Councilmember Karen
<br />White seconded this motion which carried by a voice vote of seven (7) ayes.
<br />19-84 A SPECIAL RESOLUTION AWARDED BY THE
<br />SOUTH BEND COMMON COUNCIL TO
<br />CELEBRATE THE DEDICATION AND
<br />COMMITMENT OF JO M. BRODEN TO THE
<br />CITY.
<br />Councilmember Jake Teshka stated, Whereas, Jo M. Broden is a lifelong resident of South Bend.
<br />Jo has degrees from the University of Notre Dame and Ball State University in American Studies
<br />and Applied Gerontology, respectively. Jo has resided in the 41h District for 21 years; and, Whereas,
<br />although Jo has served on the Common Council only since 2016, she has always been active in
<br />our community; and, Whereas, Jo has been instrumental in many Council initiatives, one of her
<br />more urgent interests has been to actively seek out local solutions to the global climate change
<br />problem, culminating in her sponsorship of a Resolution Endorsing and Supporting the Climate
<br />Action Plan Released by the City of South Bend Administration Entitled "Carbon Neutral 2050"
<br />which was passed by the Common Council on November 25, 2019; and, Whereas, while on the
<br />Common Council, Jo served as Chairperson for the Health & Public Safety Committee and Vice -
<br />Chairperson for the Residential Neighborhood Committee; and, Whereas, Jo will always be known
<br />for her passion for the community which is demonstrated in everything she says and does and for
<br />her unquenchable desire to fully understand every project she is involved with for the betterment
<br />of the community; and, Whereas, Jo has made her mark as a Council member by working diligently
<br />to make the City of South Bend a safe and inclusive place for all of its residents and these efforts
<br />will be felt throughout the City for many years to come.
<br />Councilmember Jake Teshka continued, Now, therefore, be it Proclaimed by the Common Council
<br />Members as follows: Section One (I). On behalf of the citizens of the City of South Bend, Indiana,
<br />and the Members of the South Bend Common Council, we are pleased to publicly recognize and
<br />honor Jo M. Broden for her dedication and work on behalf of the residents of South Bend. Section
<br />Two (II). Congratulations and thank you to Jo M. Broden for making the City of South Bend a
<br />better place to live, work and play. Signed this 9`h day of December in the year 2019 in the City of
<br />South Bend, the County of St. Joseph, in the State of Indiana. Approved this 91h day December
<br />2019.
