South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -July 20, 2007
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearings
continue ...
Sample-Ewing Development Area was just
incorporated into the Airport Economic
Development area, it becomes the Airport
Economic Development area that is the
logical development area to add the Miami
St. corridor to.
Mr. Niezgodski: So is this a new area? Or
is it an existing TIF?
Mr. Peterson: It's just taking the newly
defined Airport TIF boundary two properties
to the east.
Marty Wolfson: 809 Park Avenue. I have a
lot of questions about this. I feel
inadequately prepared. to be able to comment
in a public hearing. I think the Commission
has taken some very important steps in
making its business understandable and
available to the public, such as posting the
recent LaSalle Square addition (resolution) to
the Web site. Marcia Jones' explanation at
the beginning of the meeting about what
claims are. I think these are important steps.
It's important to continue in that direction.
But I think this issue is scheduled for a public
hearing today, but I feel there hasn't been
adequate preparation to allow the public to
participate intelligently in the public hearing.
I think Mr. Cook has a good point. It's
difficult to know pro or con because we
don't know enough about it. There are a
number of important questions. Why is this
being done at all? We have a corridor
program, as I understand now, that's being
28
