South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting —June 28, 2011 <br />the historic West Washington district. <br />The centerpiece of the Center is the <br />relocation of the internationally renowned <br />fine -art print studio Segura Publishing, from <br />Tempe, Arizona. This relocation will <br />provide an unprecedented opportunity to <br />enhance the art and legacy of printmaking in <br />the United States. Segura's continuous <br />history of working with community on all <br />levels of art education will anchor and shape <br />a significant amount of community <br />programming, and will make the Center a <br />nationally prominent print program with a <br />strong focus on Latino and African American <br />art, and Catholic religious iconography. <br />A visiting artists -in- residency program will <br />be established, with numerous opportunities <br />being available for local artists and youth to <br />participate in the printmaking workshops and <br />programs. The Center will also provide <br />much needed permanent space for a writer - <br />in- residence initiative of Notre Dame's <br />literary program, Letras Latinas, as well as <br />space to host gatherings of minority writers, <br />publishers, and editors from around the <br />country. <br />The Center will create opportunities that <br />bridge cultural backgrounds; allow local <br />artists to develop and expand their skills in a <br />supportive, collaborative environment; <br />collaborate with the South Bend Community <br />School Corporation to develop, implement, <br />and assess educational programs, activities, <br />workshops, and events that enhance and <br />expand learning for children, adolescents, <br />and adult learners; and provide area residents <br />with a variety of high quality, community <br />based education, arts, and cultural <br />programming. <br />32 <br />
