and maintain the existing neighborhood character. <br /> (ii) Projected residential entrance features can take various forms <br /> but must remain consistent with the overall architectural <br /> character and massing/form of the building. <br /> (iii) Attached dwelling units should have street-facing, <br /> individual entries. <br /> (iv) Front doors should be a prominent and welcoming feature on the <br /> primary street facade of the house. <br /> (v) Front entry features must be raised between twenty-four and <br /> forty-eight inches (24"-48") above finished grade and accessible <br /> via well-designed and proportional stairs. In no case should an <br /> entry feature design guideline inhibit the use and fair access for <br /> disabled individuals/owners of a home. <br /> (vi) Front entry porches along the primary street frontage are required. <br /> Decks and garages should be located and oriented to the rear of <br /> the primary structure. <br /> (vii) The front entry porch, portico, or canopy must be a <br /> minimum of eight feet (8) deep and must extend a minimum of <br /> fifty percent (50%) of the house width along the primary street <br /> elevation. Front entry features must be scaled, massed, and <br /> styled according to the residence. <br /> (viii) Porches should be massed in relation to the overall building form. <br /> Porches should respect the architectural style, color, and materials <br /> of the primary house. <br /> (ix) Porches should, wherever feasible, incorporate piers or columns that <br /> complement the architectural character of the house. Piers should <br /> be constructed of brick, wood, or stone, Columns are encouraged <br /> to be constructed of painted wood, although pre-fabricated <br /> fiberglass columns are acceptable substitutions. <br /> (x) Porches should be elevated between thirty and forty-eight inches <br /> above the sidewalk to create a greater sense of enclosure along <br /> residential streetscapes. Steps from the walkway to the porch <br /> steps must have a handrail and stair riser dimension that <br /> complies with this SBZO. <br /> (xi) Porch handrails should be constructed primarily of painted wood to <br /> comply with local building codes. Perforated metal, stainless <br /> steel cables, and unfinished metal mesh are prohibited. <br /> 10 <br />
