C. Materials <br /> G) Wood or cement fiber siding/shake, stucco, and brick or stone <br /> masonry are the preferred primary building materials for new <br /> residential structures and additions. Locally-quarried stone <br /> should be used as an accent material. <br /> (ii) Bricks used on visible residential facades should be no larger <br /> than a standard brick (4" x 2" x 8"). "Queen," "jumbo," or other <br /> commercial-grade/scale bricks are prohibited. <br /> (iii) Cinder/concrete block, metal, plywood, unfinished pre-cast or <br /> poured-in-place concrete are prohibited on any residential <br /> building facades <br /> (iv) Roofs, if sloped, must be clad in cedar wood shake, <br /> fiberglass, asphalt shingles, or slate. <br /> (v) When used, asphalt or fiberglass shingles with a "shadow line" <br /> effect are encouraged, as long as they meet or exceed local <br /> building codes. <br /> (D) Colors <br /> (i) Natural tones/hues and traditional colors of the Northeast <br /> Neighborhood should be used for the main portion of building <br /> facades and roof forms. Neutral earth tones (beige to brown), <br /> shades of gray, traditional colors (brick red, dark green, navy blue), <br /> or light, subdued hues are also acceptable. <br /> (ii) Contrasting and complimentary, accent colors which are <br /> compatible with the colors listed above, are acceptable for <br /> secondary or accent colors. <br /> (iii) Primary colors, bright, or excessively brilliant colors are <br /> prohibited as the primary house color but may be used sparingly <br /> for subtle trim accents or in conjunction with a historic home <br /> restoration/renovation program. <br /> (iv) Roof colors must complement the building's primary color. Roof <br /> colors may be a natural finish <br /> (E) Projections <br /> {i) Residential entrances must be visible from the street, easily <br /> accessible, and well-lit. Architectural elements such as porches, <br /> porticos, and canopies are required to identify residential entrances <br /> 9 <br />
