Fenestration <br /> (i) Buildings must provide fenestration on facades facing primary and <br /> secondary streets. Exposed,blank walls are prohibited. <br /> (ii) Door and window placement should be symmetrical along the <br /> centerline of the facade to respect the existing character of the <br /> Northeast Neighborhood. <br /> (iii) Door and window shapes must be rectangular (oriented <br /> vertically), square, or Palladian. Round, hexagon, and <br /> octagonal shapes are acceptable only as accents. <br /> (iv) Dormer windows are encouraged where appropriate to the <br /> architectural style of the roof form. <br /> (v) The front door must be the dominant feature on the front facade <br /> of the house and must remain consistent with the building's <br /> architectural style or character. <br /> (vi) All doors, especially the front door, are encouraged to have a <br /> variety of details including panels, windows, sidelights, and <br /> transoms. <br /> (vii) Doors and windows must be made of painted aluminum, wood, <br /> or vinyl. Clear glass is acceptable; dark or reflective glass is <br /> prohibited. <br /> (viii) Mill finish(non-colored) aluminum or metal door and window <br /> frames are prohibited. <br /> (ix) if a building has window shutters, they must be sized and shaped <br /> to match the associated opening, and must be mounted against the <br /> outside edge of the window. Window shutters must be either <br /> louvered or paneled, and made of painted wood, metal, or vinyl. <br /> (x) Solid metal security gates,metal rolldown windows, and link/grill <br /> security devices are prohibited in all residential windows and <br /> doorways. <br /> 8 <br />
