Fellow <br />Durwood Elliott 2222 Smith Street <br />APPEAL PERIOD OF ONE WEEK - DEMOLITION CONTRACTS <br />A discussion was held regarding the one week period in which a property owner <br />can appeal a contract for demolition. It was decided to await the City Controllw 's <br />return before any action is taken. <br />HEALTH AND UNSANITARY CONDITIONS <br />It was suggested that a meeting of the Health Department, Real Services for the <br />aged and the Welfare Department be arranged to work out a plan for following <br />through on complaints of health and unsanitary conditions which are now being <br />channelled back to Sub -Standard when the building is actually not sub -standard <br />and should not conce4n this department. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT - RETgi, MENTNOF CHIEF MOB Hl McNAUGHTON <br />Letter of request for retirement of Thomas H. McNaughton was read. After expressing <br />appreciation of the job he has done and upon motion made, seconded and carried, <br />the Board approved the request for retirement. <br />t BUILDING DEPARTMENT <br />Monthly summary report for the month of July, 1969 was filed with the Board <br />Request of the Building Commissioner for permission to attend the Indiana In- <br />spectors Association annual conference at For Wayne, Indiana:August 18, 19, 20, <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried this request was approved. <br />ALLEY VACATION PETITION - SEARS. ROEBUCK AND COMPANY <br />Petition to vacate the first alley west from Lafayette Street off Monroe was <br />filed with the Board along with a check in the amount of $65.00 and a list <br />of property owners in a 200 foot radius of the alley to be vacated. This <br />petition was referred to the City Engineer and the Area Plan Commission for <br />study, review and recommendations. <br />REQUEST -BLOCK PARTY PARK AVENUE - Mrs Veen <br />Request for permission to hold a block party in the 800 block of Park Avenue <br />submitted by Lois Veen was filed with the Board. The Secretary is requested <br />to have Mrs. Veen supply this board with a petition of the property owners in <br />this block to the effect they have no objections to having the street closed <br />at that time. <br />SPECIAL POLICE COMMISSION - A D T - Ronald C. Swiatowry <br />Upon motion made, seconded and carried, the request of A.D.T. to cancel the <br />Special Bolice Commission of Ronald C. Swiatowy was approved. <br />REQUEST - Re: Penn Central Railroad Crossing <br />Communication of Mrs, Louis Taylor regarding the Penn Central Railroad crossing <br />near Kaiser Jeep on Chippewa was filed with the Board. Mrs. Taylor is suggest- <br />ing a need for crossing flashers. This matter was referred to the City Engineer <br />to be forwarded to the Indiana Public Service Commission. <br />REQUEST OF ROBERT EDMUNDSON - GOSPEL CRUSADERS <br />Communication of Robert Edmondson regarding Gospel Crusaders was filed with the <br />Board, Mr. Edmondson, not appearing, no action taken by the Board. <br />COMPLAINT OF HAROLD CONERY <br />Harold Conery, 1313 Portage Avenue supplied the Board with a report from James <br />P. Doll, CSC, PhD at the university of Notre Dame. Mr Conery appeared before <br />the Board August 4, regarding an "epidemic" of bugs at the Portage Avenue Bridge <br />site. Doctor Doll's report indicated an extoparasite known as Oenocephalides <br />canis which lives on a blood diet in live animals as well as man., The report <br />indicates it could have been brought in by the sodding operation at the site. <br />This report was filed with the Board and referred to the City engineer for con- <br />tact with the project contractor. <br />
