REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 13, 1976 <br />ACCEPTANCE OF BID HOISTS. BUREAU OF VEHICLE MAINTENANCE <br />James Meehan, Manager of the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, <br />reported to the Board that he had,reviewed the bid of the Ridge <br />Company for two hoists, labor and installation and would recommend <br />that the Board accept the bid since it does comply with the <br />specificatons. Mr. Farrand made a motion that the Board award <br />the bid for two hoists for the Bureau of Vehicle Maintenance, <br />including labor and installation, to the Ridge Company on the low <br />and only bid of $4,524.86, subject to funding of the appropriation <br />by the Common Council. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it <br />carried. <br />REPORT ON CONDITION OF CORPORAL MAURICE WOODS <br />Chief Glenn Terry advised the Board that Corporal Maurice Woods, <br />wounded recently in a shooting incident, was up on his feet and <br />walked with assistance before being transferred to.a,Chicago hospital <br />for therapy. Corporal Woods will be in Chicago about two months. <br />Board members expressed their pleasure at receiving this encouraging <br />news about Corporal Woods. <br />LETTER RE: TERMINATION OF CLYDE CREEK CONTRACT <br />C; The Board had written Clyde Williams & Associates a letter regarding <br />possible termination of an Agreement between the City of South Bend <br />,and Clyde Williams for the Clyde Creek Drainage Project. A letter <br />was received from Charles Gaskins, President, advising the Board <br />that they have no objection to the termination of the contract, with <br />the payment of a balance due for costs and reimbursable expenses of <br />$5,458.35. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded by Mr. Brunner <br />and carried, the letter was ordered filed and referred to the Department <br />of Engineering and Bureau of Design and Administration for review <br />and recommendation. <br />BID - POLICE BODY ARMOR RECEIVED <br />A bid for the Body Armor for the Police Department which was mailed <br />to the Board of Public Works was misdirected to the County Mail Room <br />and was delivered to the Board at 10:30 a.m. It was determined that <br />the bid had been delivered to the Building by the deadline and <br />should be opened. <br />Second Chance Body Armor Deputy City Attorney Georgia Luks <br />Central Lake, Michigan reported that the notary seal was <br />missing from the non -collusion affidavit, <br />and, although the company is incorporated, <br />it was not signed by the Secretary. <br />Mr. Brunner asked that the bid be referred to the City Attorney's <br />Office for review to determine whether the defects make the bid <br />invalid. The bid was not read. Mr. Farrand made a motion that the <br />bid be referred to the City Attorney's office for review of the <br />defect and a recommendation. Mr. Brunner seconded the motion and it <br />carried. <br />REQUEST FOR MARCH OF DIMES WALKATHON FILED <br />The Board received a request from the March of Dimes to hold their <br />annual Walkathon on April 16, 1977. The request was submitted in <br />line with the Board's policy of requiring six months advance notice <br />for such walkathons. Upon motion made by Mr. Farrand, seconded <br />by Mr. Brunner and carried, the request was ordered filed and the <br />date reserved, with the request to be referred to the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting and the Police Department for review and <br />recommendation. <br />
