154 <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />MARCH 14, 1983 <br />APPROVE AMENDED ROUTE - CROP WALK FOR WORLD HUNGER APRIL 16, 1983 <br />In a memorandum to the Board, Mr. Ralph J. Wadzinski, Manager <br />Bureau of Traffic and Lighting, advised the Board that on <br />February 21,.1983, when the Board approved the request to <br />conduct the Crop Walk for World Hunger, the size of the <br />group participating was undetermined. On that basis, the <br />route was changed, anticipating the need for the group to <br />utilize the streets for their march. Since that time, he <br />has been advised that the walk would be held on the city <br />sidewalks and the participants would be obeying all traffic <br />laws. On that basis, the route change previously approved <br />by the Board on February 21, 1983 is hereby rescinded. The <br />original route submitted by the group on February 14, 1983, <br />is hereby being recommended for approval by the Board with <br />the exception that the group shall utilize Main Street for <br />their first leg of the walk rather than Michigan Street. <br />The route to be utilized is as follows: <br />Start at Leeper Park and go south on Main to <br />Washington West on Washington to LaPorte then <br />N.W. to Lincolnway, N.W. on Lincolnway to <br />Huey, north on Huey to Hamilton, east on <br />Hamilton (Woodlawn) to Riverside, Riverside <br />to Angela to North Shore to Michigan and <br />across bridge back to Leeper Park. <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the recommendation of the Bureau of Traffic <br />and Lighting was approved, subject to the filing of the <br />appropriate insurance. <br />DENY REQUEST TO CLOSE LAFAYETTE BOULEVARD BETWEEN <br />BARTLETT AND PARK LANE <br />Mr. Leszczynski advised the Board that in concurrence with <br />the Police Department Traffic Division, the Bureau of <br />Traffic and Lighting recommends denial of the request of <br />the YWCA to close Lafayette Street on May 1, 1983. The <br />bureau will, however, deliver to the site "No Parking" <br />portables and "A" frame pedestrian crossing sign which <br />are to be set in place by the participants and removed <br />after the event. Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, <br />seconded by Mr. Hill and carried, the recommendation of <br />the Bureau of Traffic and Lighting was approved. <br />FILING OF CERTIFICATE OF INSURANCE <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the Certificate of Insurance for Walsh & Kelly <br />Inc., 1700 East Main Street, Griffith, Indiana 46319, was <br />filed. <br />APPROVE HANDICAPPED PARKING PERMITS <br />Upon a motion made by Mr. Leszczynski, seconded by Mr. Hill <br />and carried, the following (9) handicapped parking permits <br />were approved and referred to the Deputy Controller's <br />office for issuance: <br />Shirley A.
