FY 2008 WEED AND SEED COMMUNITIES APPLICATION <br />~'. <br />~~ <br />f. <br />~° <br />VI. E. Additional Neighborhood Resources Providers <br />Provider: Near Northwest Neighborhood, Inc. (NNN) <br />The NNN is a Community Development Corporation formed to improve the physical, social, <br />and economic environment of the northwest section of the city. They operate housing <br />rehabilitation, home-ownership assistance, crime prevention, neighborhood leadership, <br />environmental, and social programs. The NNN is a key partner in the Mayor's Vacant and <br />Abandoned Housing Strategy. This organization can contribute to programs four, eight, <br />and ten. <br />Provider: South Bend Heritage Foundation (SBHF) <br />This Community Development Corporation works within the proposed Weed and Seed site, <br />and has invested over thirty-five million dollars into residential and commercial projects. <br />The SBHF owns and manages low to moderate income rental properties, and rehabilitates <br />homes for single family use. They assist commercial development by acquiring, clearing, <br />and redeveloping land. SBHF operates Lending Enterprise. for Neighborhood Development, <br />an organization that provides home-ownership assistance. The organization is a key <br />partner in the Mayor's Vacant and Abandoned Housing Strategy. This organization can <br />contribute to programs four, eight, and ten. <br />Providers: LaSalle Area. Neighborhood Association <br />Lincoln Way West Gateway Association <br />Near Westside Cooperative Alliance <br />Near Westside Neighborhood Organization <br />The neighborhood associations listed above fall within in the proposed Weed and Seed <br />site. All four maintain healthy relationships with the City, and hold monthly meetings. All <br />four associations tailor programs to meet their neighborhoods' needs, like neighborhood <br />clean-up and crime watch initiatives. They can aid the Weed and Seed strategy by <br />disseminating information to residents, serving as a volunteer recruitment and referral <br />tools, and by coordinating programmatic activities. These organizations can contribute to <br />programs one, six, seven, eight, nine, and ten. <br />Provider: Neighborhood Resources Corporation (NRC) <br />The NRC is anon-profit organization whose mission is to build neighborhood organization <br />capacity in the City of South Bend. The Board of Directors is comprised of individuals <br />affiliated with neighborhood associations and community institutions like the University of <br />Notre Dame and Indiana University-South Bend. This organization disseminates <br />information throughout the city, identifies funding resources, and builds partnerships. <br />This organization can contribute to programs one, ten, and eleven. <br />Provider: Lincoln Way West Steering Committee (LWWSC) <br />This is a citizen's advisory committee comprised of business owners, residents, and other <br />stakeholders on Lincoln Way West, one of the city's busy commercial corridors. The <br />corridor runs diagonally through the purposed Weed and Seed site, from downtown to the <br />South Bend Regional Airport. The LWWSC advises the City of South Bend on how to <br />spend funds for physical improvements, business assistance, and crime reduction to <br />enhance commerce and aesthetic appeal. Currently, the City is funding overtime patrols <br />on the corridor and adjacent neighborhoods.
