to find funding sources outside the Park general budget for 2009 and 2010. $55,000 is <br />needed for 2010. <br />Ms. O'Connor said we will still do the lunch program for the schools at some sites and will <br />do programming during the hour and a half lunches are served. <br />The Board felt this cut back was unacceptable and the public and politicians should be <br />informed of this. <br /> <br />3.There will be public meetings this week on Tuesday and Thursday to discuss what the <br />public’s priorities are concerning potential cuts in the 2010 budget. He has asked division <br />heads to ask anyone that may wish to speak in favor of retaining park programming to <br />come to these meetings. The results of the city wide survey will be discussed. There were <br />three questions on the survey pertaining to parks and the results were favorable. <br /> <br />VIII.Comments by the Recreation Director <br /> <br /> <br />1.Ms. O'Connor introduced Ron Dials. He is an intern from Indiana University and will be <br />with us this summer. <br /> <br />2.She handed out two articles by Paul McMinn, Aquatics Director, that have been published <br />concerning lifeguard training, in two aquatics magazines. <br /> <br />3.She met with the department head of IUSB’s Cultural Arts and they will be bringing <br />cultural arts into the recreation centers. It is hoped they will be doing dance and theater as <br />well as mentoring the kids. <br /> <br />4.Orientation for summer camp employees will begin this week. <br /> <br />5.A news conference to announce the Potawatomi Park Outdoor Performing Arts Center <br />construction will be held this Thursday. <br /> <br />IX.Comments by the Golf Operations Director <br /> <br />1.Mr. Nowacki reported that April was cold and wet affecting play. <br /> <br />2.May 3 was the demo days at Elbel. About 100 golfers came out to see the equipment. <br /> <br />3.The Thursday ads in the South Bend Tribune will continue this year. They will feature <br />discounts for slow times at the courses. <br /> <br />4.Fourteen GPS ads have been sold and 9 are pending. <br /> <br />5.Aerifying has been done at all courses. <br /> <br />6.Landscaping has been done around the clubhouse at Elbel. <br /> <br />7.Bowman creek at Studebaker is in the second phase of the project. Brush has been <br />removed from the banks and rip rap has been installed for erosion control. He thanked the <br />maintenance division for their help. <br /> <br />8.The wall and fencing repair at Erskine is underway. It is scheduled to be complete by June <br />30. <br /> <br />9.Erskine clubhouse will get new landscaping. <br /> <br /> <br />X.Comments by the Zoo Director <br /> <br /> <br />1.Mr. DeRosa presented a power point report on the Zoo improvements to the Board. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />- - 3 - - <br /> <br /> <br />
