sign or device upon or in view of any street, which simulates any <br /> official sign or which directs or purports to direct the action of op- <br /> erators of vehicles generally or the movement of traffic, or to will- <br /> fully deface, mote or remove, injure or interfere with, any sign <br /> placed in compliance with the provisions of this ordinance or the <br /> directions of the Board of Public Safety pursuant to its provisions. <br /> Section 23. Police Supervision of Traffic and Parking. -- <br /> Officers of the Police Department, in the discharge of their duties, <br /> shall have authority to direct all traffic at all times and places by <br /> voice or other signal. The signals and orders of a police officer shall <br /> take precedence over any other form of signal or sign, and it shall be <br /> unlawful for any person to refuse or fail to comply with any order, <br /> signal or other direction of a police officer made for the dispatch and <br /> control of traffic. <br /> Whenever public safety, necessity or convenience requires, <br /> police officers may remove or direct the removal of vehicles from any <br /> location or position on any street or public place and it shall be un- <br /> lawful for any owner or driver to wilfully disobey any such order. <br /> geetion 24. Pedestrian Traffic. -- Except in cases of em- <br /> ergency, pedestrians should follow the course of using only the side- <br /> walks and crosswalks. The roadbeds of highways and streets are primarily <br /> intended for vehicles. Crossing the street at other points than at <br /> crosswalks is dangerous and also interferes with vehicular traffic . <br /> Pedestrians should give close attention to traffic control signals in <br /> crossing streets. Before stepping from the sidewalk to the roadbed <br /> pedestrians should look both ways for approaching vehicles. <br /> Section 25. Pedestrians on crosswalks have right of way. -- <br /> Vehicles making left or right turns shall yield the right of way to <br /> I _ <br /> pedestrians actually in crosswalks when they are crossing with the <br /> signals at traffic controlled intersections. <br /> Section 26. Pedestrians crossing the streets at other places. -- i <br /> Any- pedestrian crossing a street except at street intersection cross- <br /> walks shall yield the right of way to vehicles. <br /> -10- <br />
