Martin, Clerk <br />REGULAR MEETING JULY 15, 2015 <br />The Board of Public Safety met in the Regular Meeting at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, July 15, 2015, <br />with Board President John Collins and Board Members Eddie Miller, Luther Taylor, and Daniel <br />Jones present. Also present were Police Chief Ronald Teachman, Fire Chief Stephen Cox, and <br />Attorneys Jessica Brock, and Stephanie Steele. The meeting was held in the Auditorium, South Bend <br />Police Department, 701 W. Sample St., South Bend, Indiana. <br />APPROVE MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETINGS <br />Mr. Jones requested that clarification be noted for the Minutes of the June 17, 2015 Regular Meeting <br />to explain the reason he abstained from the votes on the grievances for Sergeant David Beaty and <br />Sergeant Wayne Bomber was due to the fact that he was not present at the Grievance Hearings. <br />Upon a motion by Mr. Taylor, seconded by Mr. Jones and carried, the Board approved the Minutes <br />of June 17, 2015 and the Special Meetings of July 2 and July 13, 2015 with the noted changes. <br />POLICE DEPARTMENT <br />APPROVE HIRING AND SWEARING IN OF PROBATIONARY POLICE OFFICERS <br />CALEB MICHAEL JACKSON <br />ANDREW WILLIAM REAM <br />- MATTHEW THOMAS RYAN <br />In a letter to the Board, Police Chief Ronald Teachman recommended that the above listed <br />individuals be accepted for employment on a probationary basis with the South Bend Police <br />Department. In his letter to the Board, Chief Teachman stated they have met the requirements of the <br />application process of the South Bend Police Department and graduated from the Indiana Police <br />Academy on Friday, July 10, 2015. <br />Chief Teachman introduced the three (3) candidates and stated they all recently graduated from the <br />Police Academy, and did well in their class. Chief Teachman stated Andrew Ream worked <br />previously as a carpenter, and his goal is to apply those skills to build a better South Bend. Caleb <br />Jackson had done volunteer work in public service previously and obtained his Bachelor's Degree in <br />Criminal Justice. Matthew Ryan is the son of a thirty (30) year veteran Police Detective. Upon a <br />motion made by Mr. Jones, seconded by Mr. Taylor and carried, the recommendation to hire the <br />above individuals was approved. <br />Mr. John Voorde, City Clerk, was present and administered the Oath of Office to the above listed <br />individuals. The family members pinned the badges on the officers. Deputy Chief of Staff Brian <br />Pawlowski congratulated the officers. He explained the Mayor was not able to be present but if he <br />was here, he would probably tell them it's an incredible time to be a Police Officer, with a lot of <br />opportunity. Mr. Pawlowski stated in our City, the relationship between the community and the <br />Police grows better every day. He encouraged the officers to seek out advice and knowledge from <br />officers that have been with the City for a long time. Mr. Pawlowski congratulated the applicants. <br />The Board wished them well in their endeavors with the South Bend Police Department. <br />
