-32- <br />closets must be caulked to the soil pipe or securely bolted <br />to a cast iron flange, or provided with an approved screw <br />connection. . <br />Section CXVII. All joints and connections prescribed <br />under this ordinance shall be made gas and watertight, and <br />all wrought iron or mild steel waste pipes shall be properly <br />reamed on the inside. <br />Section CXVIII. Joints in cast iron pipes shall be <br />made with oakum and molten lead, caulked and smoothly <br />faced. <br />Joints in wrought iron pipes shall be 'made up" with <br />screw threads having white or red lead or mineral paint <br />applied to the male part of the thread, and shall be screwed <br />up to the shoulder of the fitting. <br />Lead pipes shall be jointed by wiped joints. Joints in <br />lead pipe or between lead pipes and pipes of brass or copper <br />shall have an exposed surface of the solder to each side of <br />the joint of at least three- quarters of an inch. <br />Connections of lead and iron pipes shall be made by means <br />of a cast lead combination or standard brass ferrule, brass, <br />brass soldering nipple or soldering union and wiped joint. <br />The use of cup or drive ferrule is hereby prohibited. <br />Section CXVIX. Every building used for residence, <br />commercial, industrial or public purposes when served with <br />city water must have its own distinct water service pipe <br />not smaller in internal diameter than shown by the schedule <br />or pipe sizes and all pipe used for conducting water under <br />pressure must be of either strong lead, galvanized wrought <br />iron pipe, or cast iron covered with a coating of asphaltum <br />varnish in accordance with the specifications of the <br />American water works Association. <br />Section CXX.
