South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -October 17, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(4) continued...
already has proposals before Project Future
and the University of Notre Dame, which it
anticipates finalizing within a month's time.
The agency is developing aproject-
management system to ensure interaction,
coordination and collaboration among the
three partners. Strickler is opening an office
in South Bend and will be adding staff from
the local area to work as part of the firm's
team of specialists.
Mayor Stephen J. Luecke has assigned Tom
Price, Assistant to the Mayor, to allocate up
to half his time to manage the proposed
contract on behalf of the Department of
Community and Economic Development and
lead the city's marketing/communication
efforts in this initiative in collaboration with
other community stakeholders.
Mayor Luecke noted that just this week
South Bend hosted the Indiana Association
of Cities and Towns convention. Elected
officials from across Indiana were in South
Bend for training, etc. They were universally
enthusiastic about South Bend and the things
we have going on here. What that experience
made clear to the Mayor is the importance of
telling South Bend's story. South Bend has a
unique opportunity with the naming of Notre
Dame as the Midwest Institute of
Nanoelectronics Discovery (MIND). It is
also a challenge. We're playing with the big
boys, now. If we want to commercialize
products that are developed in the research
park, if we want to see that growth in jobs
7
