South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -October 17, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(4) continued...
MIND project every week: explanation,
redefinition, etc.
Mr. Gibney noted Dr. Varner's concern that
our efforts in South Bend may not be
rewarded with success. Mr. Gibney
expressed the belief that it certainly will not
be successful unless we get the word out
further than South Bend and even further
than Indiana. That's
what Blue Waters Group can do for South
Bend---make the case for it coming here.
Ms. King asked Mr. Strickler to describe the
most similar project that he has been
associated with. He said that his efforts in
Madison at the University of Wisconsin were
the most similar: the intellectual assets of the
community, through what's called the Wharf
Model at the University of Wisconsin. And
Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation is
the world class model in tech transfer. Mr.
Strickler worked very closely with them, and
with Mark Bueher at University Research
Park and the city officials in Madison to
bring all that together. One of the reasons
Madison always comes out as one of the
10
