South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Regular Meeting -September 19, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
C. Airport Economic Development Area
(3) continued...
Witwer for working with the steering
committee and all parties to make this a
transparent and successful process thus far.
Through participation in the Transopoly
game and the other planning activities, we
have come to realize that redeveloping
LaSalle Square's infrastructure will demand
much more than the initial outlay of TIF
monies to realize our dream of turning this
area around. But with the continued support
of Common Council members and
organizations like the Community Forum for
Economic Development, we believe we have
laid the foundation for a strong partnership
with the city to turn LaSalle Square into an
area that will make the neighborhood a more
vibrant, welcoming area not just for the west
side but for the whole community.
Sincerely,
.Terry Niezgodski
Chairman, Lincoln Way West Gateway
Association
Mr. Vitton noted that following selection of
zpd+a as the consultant for planning and
preparation and signing of the contract,
zpd+a began their work on May 2. They met
with the steering committee and established
two public planning dates, July 12 and
August 19. Following the public input, they
prepared the plan and did market research.
Mr. Kamicar noted that everything zpd+a did
was very public, at the request of the city.
12
