The report of the Call for Special Meeting of the Council was accepted by the Council and order- ed-to be placed on file. Motion carried. Councilman Chambers moved that the reading of the minutes of the last meeting be dispensed with. Councilman Rasmussen seconded the motion. Motion carried. COMMUNICATIONS: SOUTH BEND CIVIC SAFETY COUNCIL Room 3, City Hell South Bend, Indiana 15 August 1936 South Bend., City Council City Hall South Bend, Indiana Gentlemen:- In order to carry out present plans in connection with safety work in South Bend, it appears that two special appropriations of an emergency nature must be made. These plans have been discussed with the safety Board and the Mayor and they are in agreement that this work should be done ddring the present yzea.r. I believe you will agree that our City is lacking in directional signs which refer to proper-speeds end other directions in the matter of driving.. Treffic Sims Stated speed signs to replace stop signs where a full stop- is not required. New, park - -' -i.ng regulation signs for downtown district Speed limit signs, to be used on all main highways entering the city. NO parking this side of street signs, to be used to replace old worn out sigr, now in use. City Limits Signs, -to be used on all main highways entering the city. Sins for speed of 'trAffic signals, to be used to inform motorist of the speed to drive so> as to make all signals without a stop. Total Estimated Cost $1000. This is a. non - recurring item. i Accident Prevention Bureau In order to provide the proper authority within the recently,estebli.shed Accident Pre -II vention Bureau, within the Police Department, the person in charge should hold the rank of ser- geant. In order of provide pay for•this chane in rank, the difference between the pay of pat- rolman and that of sergeant for one year, or 9144.00, should be authorized. A letter ind affirm?�tion from the-State Board of Tax Commissioners were read in regard to Ordinance #3166, #3167, #3168 #3169, #3170, #3171, #3172, #3173, #3174 and #3175 for additioi el appropriations in the sum of 412,167.55, Ordinance #3166 was dis- allowed, making; the addittoi el- appropriations $111892.55. Councilman James moved. said be placed nn file. Councilman Bierwagen seconded the motion. motioi carried. A letter end affirmation from the State Board of Tax Commissioners were reed in regpid to Ordinance #3179 for additional appropriations in the amount of $5,461.00. Deer Sir, Kindly disregard my letter of August 1st requesting the appointment of certain men to the Civil Service Committee for Policemen and Firemen. Instead it is respectfully requested that Mr. F.
