REPORT OF STREET 00MMISSIONER: October 31, 1935 TO THE HONORABLE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND CITY 0OU1\TCIL CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. HONORABLE SIRS: The following is r report of work done by my departments during the month of October, 1935 per your request. 259 loads of cinders - spread -in ruts and holes in streets and alleys 2019 paper cans emptied (65 per day average) 425 blocks of streets cleaned by hand (day crew) 1296 blocks of streets cleaned by hand (night crew) 393 miles of street s cleaned by machine 77 street intersections cleaned 1270 loads of sweepings taken to -dumps 4 street signs repaired 14 cut down and removed 1394 cu. yds of asphalt pavement smoothed 9 holes in streets repaired (sunken pavement) 32 cuts in brick pavement repaired 27 cuts in asphalt pavement repaired 6 cuts in concrete pavement repaired 14 tons of scrap asphalt cooked and used to repair streets 19 tons of cold asphalt used to repair streets 160 blocks of dirt streets and alleys graded 72 blocks of streets flushed 1 block of dirt street oiled 36 broken glass calls 272 dead animals taken to dump 6 manholes installed 1 catch basin installed 5 sewers repaired (cave —ins) 6 main sewers flushed 13 private sewers flushed .6 manholes cleaned 7 menholes repaired 98 catch basins flushed 33 catch basins repaired 1157 catch basins cleaned Respectfully submitted, J.
