<br />would be less of a.factor than in other areas now being considered. A rehabilitation project would free approximate]
<br />150 lots currently tied up with estate, delinquent taxes and title problems. New homes would be erected on these
<br />lots and thereby give families in the Chapin Street area a chance to purchase and consequently improve their living
<br />standards. The only choice these families have at ptesent are to buy existing older homes and in a few years, anotbe
<br />slum: area would be created.
<br />There are many fine qualities in our area that have been overlooked because of the blight. We have Harrison School,
<br />the new Washington High school and a new public park. There is also two thoroughfares leading to the new shopping
<br />centers and an organized neighborhood program.
<br />We ask that you consider the emergency of this request. Here is a case, where, through your Commission, you can save
<br />existing homes and provide sites for new ones, without the problems you are having in other areas.

<br />The William Penn Fraternal Association, Branch 132 of South Bend, Indiana, the Officers and its more than three
<br />thousand (3000) members, American Citizens of Hungarian ancestory, wish to take this opportunity to express their
<br />sincere thanks and appreciation for a resolution recently passed by the council and a proclamation signed by
<br />Honorable Mayor Frank J. Bruggner, honoring the Hungarian born war hero Colonel - Commandant Michael de Kovats.
<br />It makes us all very happy to know that the long overdue honor to Colonel - Commandant Michael de Kovats has become a
<br />reality. You are certainly to be commended for your efforts;to give this Hungarian born Hero the proper recognition.
<br />We are all looking forward to having, this become an annual affair.
