COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MARCH 8, 1971 <br />nRnTVAWrR <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER <br />WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND <br />HERSEY - SPARLING METER COMPANY, DEDHAM, MASSACHUSETTS, <br />FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ASSORTMENT OF WATER METERS <br />FOR USE FROM FEBRUARY 7, 1971 to FEBRUARY 7, 1972, IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $38,779.00. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities, <br />explained that Hersey - Sparling was low bidder in all instances for these items, and, the items <br />can be ordered as needed. Councilman Zielinski made a motion, seconded by Councilman Craven, <br />that the ordinance go to the Council favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, <br />0 absent. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER <br />WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AND FREEMAN <br />SPICER COMPANY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, FOR THE PUR- <br />CHASE OF THREE 1971 PLYMOUTHS IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$7,080.00. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities, <br />explained that about seven different people must use these cars and that the best trade -in <br />is made when the cars are two years old. He said these cars have about 45- thousand miles on <br />them. Mrs. Irene Mutzel asked how many automobiles the Water Dept. owned at the present time. <br />Mr. Hunter replied- -six 5- passenger cars. Councilman Reinke made a motion, seconded by Council- <br />man Palmer, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, <br />0 absent. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE <br />WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />AND DON MEDOW MOTORS OF MISHAWAKA, INDIANA, FOR, <br />THE PURCHASE OF TWO 1971 HORNETS, IN THE AMOUNT OF <br />$3,987.86. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities, <br />explained that the Board recommended that these smaller cars be purchased since they can be <br />used in this department for the type of work performed. The two units will be used by the <br />laboratory for supervision of this department in testing, etc. and also for supervision of <br />maintenance of plants, diversion chambers, and lift stations, etc. Councilman Reinke suggested <br />that a record be kept of the service costs on these smaller units and compare them with the <br />service costs for the larger vehicles this year. Mr. Hunter said a record is always kept. <br />Councilman Reinke, made a motion, seconded by Councilman Laven, that the ordinance go to the <br />Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE <br />WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, <br />AND MORETRENCH CORPORATION, DOWNERS GROVE, ILLI- <br />NOIS, FOR THE PURCHASE OF A WELLPOINT SYSTEM, IN <br />THE AMOUNT OF $3,094.88. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities <br />explained this equipment was rented at a cost in excess of $2,000 to assist the City in the <br />completion of the Olive Street sewer repair. The rental cost can be applied to the purchase <br />price of the entire system. He said this equipment is needed not only by the Sewer Division, <br />but can be used by the Water Works on some of their construction projects and the Board felt <br />that the purchase w-flIbevery good. Councilman Reinke made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, <br />that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. <br />
