M, <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MARCH 8 1971 <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 40 <br />OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />(Northeast Corner of Ironwood Drive and Colfax <br />Avenue) <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. Nicholas P. Cholis, an attorney, <br />spoke on behalf of the petitioners, Crowe, Chizek and Company. He said a considerable amount <br />of effort was spent to carry out and comply with the Area Plan recommendations. He said a <br />single story structure was chosen to blend in with the neighborhood and much concern was given <br />the parking and traffic considerations because of the neighborhood surroundings. He introduced <br />Mr. Irvin Purucker of Matthews & Purucker Architectural firm, who displayed drawings of the <br />,proposed building. He answered questions relative to the construction of the building. Council <br />man Laven made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the ordinance go to the Council as <br />favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. <br />ORDINANCE <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4990 -68, AS <br />AMENDED, COMMONLY KNOWN.'AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE <br />OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Chapter 40, <br />Municipal Code), AS AMENDED. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. F. Jay Nimtz, an attorney, appeared <br />as attorney for the petitioners. He said the land is now zoned "A" residential but the petition- <br />ers have not been able to sell the land because there is a gravel pit across the street. He <br />introduced Mr. James Plunkett, vice president -of Cloud Brothers, who would like to build a <br />wholesale sales and storage building and office on the land. Mr. Plunkett stated that because <br />,of the downtown renewal program they were forced to move out of their present building and are <br />now in temporary quarters. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion, seconded by Councilman Reinke, <br />that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable.
