M, COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MARCH 8 1971 ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND SUPPLEMENTING CHAPTER 40 OF THE MUNICIPAL CODE OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. (Northeast Corner of Ironwood Drive and Colfax Avenue) This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. Nicholas P. Cholis, an attorney, spoke on behalf of the petitioners, Crowe, Chizek and Company. He said a considerable amount of effort was spent to carry out and comply with the Area Plan recommendations. He said a single story structure was chosen to blend in with the neighborhood and much concern was given the parking and traffic considerations because of the neighborhood surroundings. He introduced Mr. Irvin Purucker of Matthews & Purucker Architectural firm, who displayed drawings of the ,proposed building. He answered questions relative to the construction of the building. Council man Laven made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4990 -68, AS AMENDED, COMMONLY KNOWN.'AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA (Chapter 40, Municipal Code), AS AMENDED. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. F. Jay Nimtz, an attorney, appeared as attorney for the petitioners. He said the land is now zoned "A" residential but the petition- ers have not been able to sell the land because there is a gravel pit across the street. He introduced Mr. James Plunkett, vice president -of Cloud Brothers, who would like to build a wholesale sales and storage building and office on the land. Mr. Plunkett stated that because ,of the downtown renewal program they were forced to move out of their present building and are now in temporary quarters. Councilman Szymkowiak made a motion, seconded by Councilman Reinke, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. There being no further business Grounds entertained a motion to the motion to take a five minute Time: 10:25 p. m. II ATTEST: to be considered before the Committee of the Whole, Chairman rise and report to the Council. Councilman Allen so moved with recess. Councilman Reinke seconded the motion. Motion carried.
