COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING MARCH 8, 1971 COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE MEETING ORDINANCE - Fixing Annual Salaries for Elected Officials beginning 1972 (Cont'd.) Miss Guthrie handed a copy of the letter to the Clerk-for the records. Councilman Laven moved for a five minute recess. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. Time 9:50 p. m. The Committee of the Whole reconvened at 9:25 p. m. Councilman Reinke gave the Fees & Salaries Committee Report. Councilman Reinke offered the following substitute for Section I of the ordinance: Section I. That the following annual salaries, payable from the General Fund, are hereby fixed for the following elected officers of the City of South Bend, Indiana, effective for the elective term commencing January 1, 1972, and continuing during the years of their elective terms of office: Mayor, for the calendar years 1972, 1973, 1974 and 1975; each year .... ......................$25,000, City Clerk: For the calendar year 1972 ..............................$ 8,000 For the calendar year 1973 .............................. 8,500 For the calendar year 1974 .............................. 9,000 For the calendar year 1975 .............................. 9,500 Members of the Common Council (each): For the calendar year 1972........ ..... .............$ 3,000 For the calendar year 1973 .............................. 3,200 For the calendar year 1974 .............................. 3,400 For the calendar year 1975... ........................... 3,600 Councilman Reinke moved that the ordinance be amended to read as above stated and that the amendment be adopted by the Council. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. A- motion -to amend the by Councilman Allen that the Council should receive $3,000 each year during office. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion was defeated by a vote of 3 ayes, 6 nays by a show of hand vote. Chairman Grounds asked for a_show of hands on Councilman Reinke's motion. Motion carried by a vote of 7 ayes, 2 nays. Councilman Reinke made a motion, seconded by Councilman Laven that the ordinance go to the Council favorable as amended. Motion carried. 7 ayes, 2 nays, 0 absent. ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND BADGER METER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ASSORTMENT OF WATER METERS FOR USE FROM FEBRUARY 7, 1971 TO FEBRUARY 7, 1972, IN THE AMOUNT OF $186,577.50. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities explained that Badger Meter Mfg. had a program applicable to all meters. He said these meters are to be installed in the old casings we are using now and for a $10.00 charge- -the customer may have the meter installed on the outside of the home. He stated that a program is being set up to replace many meters that are over 40 years old. He said the customer must request outside meter installation. Councilman Zielinski made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent. rSJritiik'j #A %kj fiiy' AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA AND GAMON- CALMET INDUSTRIES INC. OF FLORENCE, KENTUCKY FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ASSORTMENT OF WATER METERS FOR USE FROM FEBRUARY 7, 1971 TO FEBRUARY 7, 1972, IN THE AMOUNT OF $9,257.94. This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities explained that Gamon - Calmet was low bidder on these meters. Councilman Palmer made a motion, seconded by Councilman Wise, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent.
