<br />ORDINANCE - Fixing Annual Salaries for Elected Officials beginning 1972 (Cont'd.)
<br />Miss Guthrie handed a copy of the letter to the Clerk-for the records. Councilman Laven moved
<br />for a five minute recess. Councilman Palmer seconded the motion. Motion carried. Time 9:50 p. m.
<br />The Committee of the Whole reconvened at 9:25 p. m. Councilman Reinke gave the Fees & Salaries
<br />Committee Report.
<br />Councilman Reinke offered the following substitute for Section I of the ordinance:
<br />Section I. That the following annual salaries, payable from the General Fund, are hereby fixed
<br />for the following elected officers of the City of South Bend, Indiana, effective for
<br />the elective term commencing January 1, 1972, and continuing during the years of
<br />their elective terms of office:
<br />Mayor, for the calendar years 1972,
<br />1973, 1974 and 1975; each year .... ......................$25,000,
<br />City Clerk:
<br />For the calendar year 1972 ..............................$ 8,000
<br />For the calendar year 1973 .............................. 8,500
<br />For the calendar year 1974 .............................. 9,000
<br />For the calendar year 1975 .............................. 9,500
<br />Members of the Common Council (each):
<br />For the calendar year 1972........ ..... .............$ 3,000
<br />For the calendar year 1973 .............................. 3,200
<br />For the calendar year 1974 .............................. 3,400
<br />For the calendar year 1975... ........................... 3,600
<br />Councilman Reinke moved that the ordinance be amended to read as above stated and that the
<br />amendment be adopted by the Council. Councilman Laven seconded the motion. A- motion -to amend the
<br />by Councilman Allen that the Council should receive $3,000 each year during
<br />office. Councilman Craven seconded the motion. Motion was defeated by a vote of 3 ayes, 6 nays
<br />by a show of hand vote.
<br />Chairman Grounds asked for a_show of hands on Councilman Reinke's motion. Motion carried by a
<br />vote of 7 ayes, 2 nays. Councilman Reinke made a motion, seconded by Councilman Laven that the
<br />ordinance go to the Council favorable as amended. Motion carried. 7 ayes, 2 nays, 0 absent.

<br />AN ORDINANCE APPROVING A CONTRACT BETWEEN THE WATER
<br />WORKS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AND BADGER
<br />METER MANUFACTURING COMPANY, MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN,
<br />FOR THE PURCHASE OF AN ASSORTMENT OF WATER METERS FOR
<br />USE FROM FEBRUARY 7, 1971 TO FEBRUARY 7, 1972, IN THE
<br />AMOUNT OF $186,577.50.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and
<br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities
<br />explained that Badger Meter Mfg. had a program applicable to all meters. He said these meters
<br />are to be installed in the old casings we are using now and for a $10.00 charge- -the customer
<br />may have the meter installed on the outside of the home. He stated that a program is being set
<br />up to replace many meters that are over 40 years old. He said the customer must request outside
<br />meter installation. Councilman Zielinski made a motion, seconded by Councilman Palmer, that the
<br />ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried. 9 ayes, 0 nays, 0 absent.

<br />CALMET INDUSTRIES INC. OF FLORENCE, KENTUCKY FOR THE
<br />PURCHASE OF AN ASSORTMENT OF WATER METERS FOR USE
<br />FROM FEBRUARY 7, 1971 TO FEBRUARY 7, 1972, IN THE
<br />AMOUNT OF $9,257.94.
<br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above ordinance, proponents and
<br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard thereon. Mr. John Hunter, Director of Utilities
<br />explained that Gamon - Calmet was low bidder on these meters. Councilman Palmer made a motion,
<br />seconded by Councilman Wise, that the ordinance go to the Council as favorable. Motion carried.
