REGULAR MEETING NOVEMBER 8, 1982 <br />RESOLUTION NO. 1008 -82 A RESOLUTION OF THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CTY OF SOUTH <br />BEND, INDIANA, COMMEMORATING THE MANY CONTRIBUTIONS MADE TO <br />OUR COMMUNITY BY THE LATE ALEX M. ANDRZEJEWSKI <br />WHREAS, the Common Council of the City of South Bend, Indiana, notes with sincere <br />sadness, the passing of one of its finest and dedicted citizens, Alex M. Andrzejewski; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council recognizes with pride the thirty (30) years which <br />he served on the South Bend Fire Department, twelve (12) of which were served as <br />Fire Chief under Mayors Edward F. Voorde and George A. Schock; and <br />WHEREAS, the Council notes that during his tenure as Fire Chief he built the <br />Fire Deparmtent into "one of the finest... in the country "; and <br />WHEREAS, the late Alex M. Andrzejewski also served with distinction as the <br />Indiana Toll Road Safety Director, and Bailiff to the St. Joseph County Circuit <br />Court since 1969, and served in countless memberships and positions of leadership in <br />benevolent societies throughout our Community; and <br />WHEREAS, the sincerity and loyal dedication which the late Alex M. Andrzejewski <br />brought to the Fire Fighting Profession and all of the many activities which he <br />enjoyed and participated in, are just art of the right legacy which our Community <br />will long remember. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Common Council of the City of South Bend, <br />Indiana, as follows: <br />SECTION I. On behalf of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly commemorates the late Alex M. Andrzejewski, for a full life filled <br />with dedicated service to the fire Fighting Profession and to the South Bend Community <br />where he touched so many lives. <br />SECTION II. The Common Council expresses its deepest sympathy to Mrs. Alex M. <br />Andrzejewski and her family, and sincerely hopes that the rich and bountiful memories <br />of her husband ill help brighten the days head. <br />SECTION III. Beck <br />Council Member Voorde read both these resolutions. He indicated they would be framed <br />and presented to the wives at a later date. Council Member Harris made a motion to <br />adopt these resoutions, seconded by Council Member Serge. <br />Kenneth Fedder, attorney for the Economic Development Commission, asked that a new <br />bill, Bill No. 133 -82, be put on the agenda. Council Member Serge made a motion to <br />add Bill No. 133 -82 to the agenda to allow for first reading, seconded by Council <br />Member Szymkowiak. The motion carried. <br />REPORTS <br />Council Member Zielinski indicated that the Special Committee on Snow Removal would <br />meet at 4:30 p.m., on November 15. <br />Council Member Beck made a motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole, seconded <br />by Council Member Taylor. The motion carried. <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the Committee <br />of the Whole on November 8, 1982, at 7:15 p.m., with nine members present. Chairman <br />Voorde presiding. <br />BILL NO. 32 -82 A BILL DESIGNATING AND ESTABLISHING AN HISTORIC LANDMARK UNDER <br />ORDINANCE NO. 5565 -73, AMENDING ORDINANCE NO. 4990 -68, <br />AS AMENDED, COMMONLY KNOWN AS THE ZONING ORDINANCE OF <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND (OLIVER SCHOOL.) <br />
