(6) Payment of a fifty-dollar($50.00) examination fee. <br /> (c) Examination. Proof of a passing exam score from an internationally or nationally <br /> recognized mechanical examiner, to be determined by the Department and to be reviewed <br /> and published annually, shall be submitted with any registration. <br /> (d) Surety bond. Each applicant for a registration must also provide a surety bond, payable to <br /> the City in the penal sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000.00), and conditioned upon <br /> faithful compliance with the provisions of the building code as it pertains to the regulation <br /> of heating, air conditioning and ventilating work and apparatus and agreeing to pay all <br /> damages, costs and expenses caused by the negligence of the applicant through failure to <br /> comply with such provisions. <br /> (e) Issuance of certificate. <br /> (1) The Examiner shall examine the application, the accompanying documentation and <br /> other information provided, and the examination results, and shall recommend to the <br /> Building Commissioner the granting or denying of the registration. Appeal from the <br /> denial, suspension or revocation of any registration by the Examiner shall be made <br /> according to the procedures in Section 4-16 of the Municipal Code. <br /> (2) The Building Department shall issue a registration to any applicant approved by the <br /> Examiner, who has complied with all requirements of the application, including but not <br /> limited to the filing of a bond and payment of the prescribed registration fee. <br /> (3) Each registration shall specify the name of the person to whom the registration is <br /> issued, the company name under which the registration does business, the business <br /> address, and the expiration date of the registration. The registration shall be posted in a <br /> conspicuous place in the applicant's principal place of business. <br /> (f) Nontransferability. Any registration issued under this article is nontransferable to another <br /> person, and it shall be unlawful to loan or transfer such registration to the use of any person <br /> other than the person in whose name the registration is issued. <br /> (g) Term of registration; renewal: <br /> (1) Term. The term of each registration under this article commences on the effective date <br /> of the surety bond and is for twelve (12) months thereafter. <br /> (2) Renewal. <br /> a. A person is eligible for a renewal registration if he/she holds a valid and <br /> unrevoked registration under this article and renews the registration on or before <br /> its expiration date. <br /> b. A person is also eligible for a renewal registration if he/she has held a valid and <br /> unrevoked registration, which has expired within the previous six (6) months. <br /> Under these circumstances, a renewal registration will be granted, but the fee will <br /> be increased to the fee required for a new registration. <br /> c. A renewal registration will not be granted to any person whose previous <br /> registration has expired for more than six (6) months. Under such circumstances, <br /> application must be made and all requirements met for a new registration as set <br /> out above. <br /> (h) Exemption. <br /> (1) No registration under this article is required for the sale, installation, use, maintenance, <br /> alteration or repair of window air conditioning units of two (2) horsepower or less or of <br /> electric baseboard cable or panel heating units. <br /> (2) The performance of heating, air conditioning, and ventilating systems in a single <br /> family dwelling by the owner-occupant of the dwelling; provided, however, that this <br /> exemption does not apply to any person hired by the owner-occupant for compensation <br /> to assist or to perform such heating, air conditioning, and ventilating work on that <br /> dwelling. <br /> (i) Registration Fees: <br /> New $125.00 <br /> Renewal $125.00 <br /> (j) Inactive registrations: <br /> (1) Any heating and air conditioning contractor previously holding a Class A registration <br /> and is presently employed by a government agency as an Inspector within a Building <br /> Department may maintain an inactive registration. <br /> (2) Term: The term of an inactive registration under this article is from the date of issuance <br /> of the registration and for twelve (12)months thereafter. <br /> (3) Registration Fees: twenty-five dollars ($25.00). <br /> (k) Termination of registration holder: <br /> Page 27 of 31 <br />
