M <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />REPORTS <br />JUNE 22, 1987 <br />Council Member Zakrzewski indicated the Residential Neighborhood Committee had met <br />regarding traffic problems on Widener Lane. He indicated the majority of the <br />residents in attendance at this meeting wanted Widener closed at Miami. <br />Council Member Voorde indicated the Zoning and Vacation Committee had met on Bill <br />No. 53 -87 and recommended it favorably. <br />Council Member Braboy indicated that the Human Resources Committee had met on Bill <br />No. 54 -87 and recommended it favorably. <br />Council Member Taylor made a motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole, <br />seconded by Council Member Zakrzewski . The motion carried. <br />COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />Be it remembered that the Common Council of the City of South Bend met in the <br />Committee of the Whole on June 22, 1987, at 7:28 p.m., with nine members present. <br />Chairman Puzzello presiding. <br />BILL NO. 53 -87 A BILL TO VACATE THE FOLLOWING DESCRIBED PROPERTY: THE FIRST <br />NORTH -SOUTH ALLEY WEST OF IRONWOOD DRIVE RUNNING SOUTH FROM <br />PLEASANT STREET TO THE ST. JOSEPH RIVER FOR A DISTANCE OF 136 <br />FEET MORE OR LESS. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Mary Schaffer, 2108 Pleasant, <br />made the presentation for the bill. She indicated she was requesting this vacation <br />for the safety of neighborhood children and the security of adjacent home owners. <br />Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion to recommend this bill to the Council <br />favorably, seconded by Council Member Taylor. The motion carried. <br />BILL NO. 54 -87 A BILL TO APPROPRIATE $287,500 FROM THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT <br />STATE GRANT FUND TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC <br />DEVELOPMENT OF THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA. <br />This being the time heretofore set for public hearing on the above bill, proponents <br />and opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. Donald Inks, Director of <br />Community Development, made the presentation for the bill. He indicated this <br />appropriation of State grant money would be used as a loan to assist Sibley Machine <br />and Foundry Corporation and Precision Tool & Die in their proposed projects. <br />Council Member Zakrzewski made a motion to recommend this bill to the Council <br />favorably, seconded by Council Member Taylor. The motion carried. <br />There being no further business to come before the Committee of the Whole, Council <br />Member Taylor made a motion to rise and report to the Council, seconded by Council <br />Member Zakrzewski.
