Installer must examine the substrates and supporting structure and the conditions <br />under which the carpentry work is to be installed; and notify the Architect in writing <br />of conditions detrimental to the work. Do not proceed with the installation until <br />unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected. <br /> <br />b. Coordination: Fit carpentry work to other work; scribe and cope as required for <br />accurate fit. Correlate location of furring, nailers, blocking, grounds, and similar <br />supports to allow proper attachment of other work. <br /> <br />B. Products <br /> <br />1. Materials: <br /> <br />a. Lumber, General: <br />1) Factory mark each piece of lumber and plywood with type, grade, mill and <br />grading agency, except omit marking from surfaces to be exposed with <br />transparent finish or without finish. <br />2) Nominal sizes are indicated, except as shown by detail dimensions. <br />Provide actual sizes as required by PS-20, for the moisture content <br />specified for each use. <br />a) Provide dressed lumber, S4S, unless otherwise shown or <br />specified. <br />b) Provide seasoned lumber with 19 percent maximum moisture <br />content at time of dressing. <br /> <br />b. Lumber Framing: Members shall be "SPF" (Spruce-Pine-Fir) unless noted <br />otherwise and grading shall be as follows: <br />1) Plates, Blocking and Furring: Stud Grade. <br /> <br />c. Miscellaneous Materials: <br />1) Fasteners and Anchorages: Provide size, type, material, and finish as <br />indicated and as recommended by applicable standards, complying with <br />applicable Federal Specifications for nails, staples, screws, bolts, nuts, <br />washers, and anchoring devices. Provide metal hangers and framing <br />anchors of the size and type recommended by the manufacturer for each <br />use including recommending nails. Where rough carpentry work is <br />exposed to weather, in ground contact or in area of high relative humidity, <br />provide fasteners and anchorages with a hot dip zinc coating (ASTM <br />A153). <br /> <br />2. Wood Treatment: <br /> <br />a. Preservative Treatment: Where lumber or plywood is indicated as "PTWD-WD" or <br />"Treated" or is specified herein to be treated, comply with the applicable <br />requirements of the American Wood Preservers Association (AWPA). Mark each <br />treated item to comply with the American Lumber Standards Committee (ALSC) <br />Quality Mark requirements. <br />1) Pressure treat items with water borne preservatives complying with AWPA <br />Standard U1 for lumber, timbers and plywood. After treatment kiln dry to a <br />maximum moisture content of 19 percent. Treat indicated items and the <br />following: <br /> <br />
