<br /> <br />CITY OF SOUTH BEND <br />STUDEBAKER NATIONAL MUSEUM <br />SKYLIGHT REPLACEMENT ROUGH CARPENTRY 06100-3 <br />a) Wood cants, nailers, blocking, stripping, and similar members in <br />connection with roofing, gutters, conductor heads, flashing, vapor <br />barriers, fascia, soffits, curbs, and waterproofing. <br />b) Wood sills, sleepers, blocking, furring, plates, nailers, stripping, <br />and similar concealed members in contact with masonry or <br />concrete. <br /> <br />b. Complete fabrication of treated items prior to treatment, wherever possible. If cut <br />after treatment, coat cut surfaces with heavy brush coat of same chemical used <br />for treatment. Observe each piece of lumber or plywood after drying and discard <br />damaged or defective pieces. <br /> <br />C. Execution <br /> <br />1. Installation: <br /> <br />a. General: <br />1) Discard units of material with defects which might impair the quality of the <br />work, and units which are too small to fabricate the work with minimum <br />joints or the optimum joint arrangement. <br />2) Set carpentry work accurately to required levels and lines, with members <br />plumb and true and accurately cut and fitted. <br />3) Securely attach carpentry work to substrates by anchoring and fastening <br />as shown and as required by recognized standards. Countersink <br />nailheads on exposed carpentry work and fill holes. Use common wire <br />nails, except as otherwise indicated. Use finishing nails for finish work. <br />Select fasteners of size that will not penetrate members where opposite <br />side will be exposed to view or will receive finish materials. Make tight <br />connections between members. Install fasteners without splitting of wood; <br />predrill as required. <br />4) Apply field treatment complying with AWPA M4 to cut surfaces of <br />preservative treated lumber and plywood. <br /> <br />b. Wood Grounds, Nailers, and Blocking: <br />1) Provide wherever shown and where required for screeding or attachment of other <br />work. Form to shapes as shown and cut as required for true line and level of work <br />to be attached. Coordinate location with other work involved. <br />2) Attach to substrates as required to support applied loading. Countersink bolts and <br />nuts flush with surfaces, unless otherwise shown. Build into masonry during <br />installation of masonry work. Where possible, anchor to formwork before concrete <br />placement. <br />3) Provide permanent grounds of dressed, preservative treated, key beveled lumber <br />not less than 1-1/2” wide; and of the thickness required to bring face of ground to <br />exact thickness of finish material involved. Remove temporary grounds when no <br />longer required. <br /> <br />c. Wood blocking, nailers, and grounds shall be provided as necessary to receive finish items. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />END OF SECTION 06100
