REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 24, 2000 <br />of the properties within the petition area are single family homes that are currently zoned "B" <br />Residential or "C" Commercial. The proposed rezoning would bring this neighborhood's zoning <br />in line with the current uses while helping to protect the viability of the single family residential area. <br />Further, the Area Plan Commission, at its Public Hearing held on December 21, 1999, sent this <br />petition to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />This being the time heretofore set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />Mr. Alonzo Teague, 2013 Kenwood, South Bend, Indiana, a member of the Board of the Near <br />Westside Partnership Center spoke in favor of this petition. Mr. Teague stated that single family <br />houses are needed in the area as there a lot of empty lots. He further stated that he would like to see <br />more homes built and that this rezoning is the first step. <br />There was no one else present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to <br />this bill. <br />Therefore, Councilmeber Aranowski made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this bill. Councilmember Coleman seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote <br />of nine (9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 109 -99 A BILL AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE FOR <br />PROPERTY LOCATED ON CALVERT STREET <br />BETWEEN KALEY AND NEW ENERGY DRIVE <br />Councilmember White reported that the Zoning & Annexation Committee met on this bill and sends <br />it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. John Byotni, Assistant Director, Area Plan Commission, Room 1140 County -City Building, <br />South Bend, Indiana, informed the Council that the bill presented at this time is a correction of a bill <br />previously passed by the Council on November 8, 1999. The bill previously passed has an error in <br />line one of Section I where the word ordinance was incorrectly spelled and in the last line of Section <br />I where the zoning classification designation "A" did not precede the word "Residential." <br />This being the time fieretofor`e set for the Public Hearing on the above bill, proponents and <br />opponents were given an opportunity to be heard. <br />There being no brie present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />bill, Councilmember Coleman made a motion for favorable recommendation to full Council <br />concerning this bill. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote <br />of nine (9) ayes. <br />Councilmember Varner inquired of Mr. Michael Urbanski, who was the contact person for the <br />original petition, whether these lots will be combined or are they large enough. Mr. Urbanski noted <br />that these lots have an average frontage of sixty -one feet (61) to sixty -three feet (63'). <br />BILL NO. 1 -00 A BILL AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE, AND <br />ESTABLISHING AN HISTORIC LANDMARK FOR THE <br />PROPERTY LOCATED AT 911 SOUTH MICHIGAN, IN <br />THE CITY OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Councilmemb'ei White reported that the Zoning & Annexation Committee met on this bill and sends <br />it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. John Oxian, 742 Sancome Street, South Bend, Indiana, President, Historic Preservation <br />Commission, 227 West Jefferson Boulevard, Room 1123, South Bend, Indiana, made the <br />presentation for this bill. <br />
