REGULAR MEETING JANUARY 24, 2000 <br />Councilmember Coleman made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its entirety and <br />presenting it to Corporal Derek Dieter and members of the IMPALA soccer team. Joining Corporal <br />Dieter and the team were Sergeant Ron Glon and County Councilman Rafael Morton. Mr. Morton, <br />on behalf of the Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, thanked the Council for their <br />continued support of this program. Corporal Dieter of the South Bend Police Department also <br />thanked the Council for their support. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to address the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />Resolution. <br />Councilmember Varner made a motion to adopt this Resolution. Councilmember Ujdak seconded <br />the motion which carried by acclamation. <br />MAYOR'S STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS <br />At 7:25 p.m. Mayor Stephen J. Luecke presented to the Council the annual State of the City Address. <br />RESOLVE INTO THE COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE <br />At 8:15 p.m. Councilmember Varner made a motion to resolve into the Committee of the Whole. <br />Councilmember King seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine (9) ayes. Chairman <br />Uj dak presiding. <br />BILL NO. 92 -99 A BILL AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE FOR <br />PROPERTY LOCATED AT 1408 & 1412 MISHAWAKA <br />AVENUE AND 912 OAKLAND AVENUE IN THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA <br />Councilmember Coleman made a motion to continue this bill until February 28, 2000 at the request <br />of the Petitioner. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote <br />of nine (9) ayes. After discussion, it was noted that this bill should have been continued until <br />February 14, 2000. Therefore, Councilmembers Coleman and Aranowski withdrew their previous <br />motion and Councilmember Coleman made a new motion that this bill be continued until the <br />February 14, 2000 regular meeting of the Council and sent to the Zoning and Annexation Committee <br />for review. Councilmember Aranowski seconded the motion which carried by a voice vote of nine <br />(9) ayes. <br />BILL NO. 104 -99 A BILL AMENDING THE ZONING ORDINANCE FOR <br />PROPERTY GENERALLY LOCATED BETWEEN <br />LINDEN AVENUE ON THE SOUTH, JOHNSON STREET <br />ON THE EAST, WERWINSKI STREET AND LONGLEY <br />AVENUE ON THE NORTH, AND OLIVE STREET ON <br />THE WEST <br />Councilmember White reported that the Zoning & Annexation Committee met on this bill and sends <br />it to the Council with a favorable recommendation. <br />Mr. John Byorni, Assistant Director, Area Plan Commission, Room 1140 County -City Building, <br />South Bend, Indiana, presented the report from the Commission. He noted that this is a Common <br />Council initiated petition to rezone from `B" Residential, "A" Height and Area and "C" <br />Commercial, "A" and "D" Height and Area to "A" Residential, "A" Height and Area to allow uses <br />permitted in the "A" Residential District. <br />Mr. Byorni noted that based on information available to the staff prior to the Public Hearing, they <br />recommend that this petition be sent to the Council with a favorable recommendation. The maj ority <br />
