SECTION 5 – WATER WORKS <br />73 <br />SECTION 5 – WATER WORKS <br />5-1 GENERAL <br />5-1.1 DESIGN REQUIREMENTS <br />Design of the Water System shall comply with the current version of 327 IAC Article 8 Public Water <br />Supply, Recommended Standards for Water Works, Great Lakes – Upper Mississippi River Board of <br />State and Provincial Public Health and Environmental Managers (10 States Standards), and pipe <br />manufacturer’s requirements. The minimum size for a water main shall be eight (8) inches. When <br />extending public facilities such as water main, the facilities shall extend the width of the developed <br />parcel to the property line. <br />Developments of commercial and industrial shall have both domestic and fire services. Each service <br />shall have their own valve. <br />The current version of the City of South Bend Water Works Rules and Regulations apply. This <br />requirement shall include Water Leak Insurance and Cross-Connection requirements. <br />All materials and work shall conform to Water Department Standards and to Indiana Department of <br />Environmental Management and Indiana Administrative Code (IAC) Requirements. <br />5-2 MATERIALS <br />5-2.1 PIPES TWO (2) INCHES AND SMALLER <br />Water service pipe and fittings shall be Type K copper, conforming to ASTM B88 with compression <br />fittings in one (1) inch or two (2) inch diameter. <br />5-2.2 PIPES THREE (3) INCHES AND LARGER <br />5-2.2 (a) DUCTILE IRON PIPE <br />Eighteen (18) foot lengths of ductile iron pipe shall conform to the requirements of the American <br />National Standards Institute (ANSI) 21.51, or American Water Works Association (AWWA) <br />C151, Thickness Class 50 push-on joint pipe. The ductile iron pipe and fittings shall have a hot <br />coal tar coating in accordance with American Standards Institute for Coal-Tar Dip Coating for <br />Cast Iron Pipe and Fittings. Ductile iron pipe and fittings shall be cement-lined, conforming to <br />ANSI A21.4 or AWWA C104. Rubber gasket joints shall conform to the requirements of ANSI <br />A21.11 or AWWA C111. <br />5-2.2 (b) FITTINGS <br />Fittings shall be ductile iron conforming to AWWA C111/ANSI A21.11 and AWWA C110/ANSI <br />A21.10 for full body fittings or AWWA C153/ANSI A21.53-94 for compact fittings. All fittings <br />shall be mechanical joint. All fittings shall be manufactured in the United States.
