SECTION 5 – WATER WORKS <br />74 <br />5-2.3 POLYETHYLENE ENCASEMENT <br />The ductile iron water main pipe, valves, and associated fittings shall be encased (wrapped) in <br />polyethylene in accordance with AWWA C105/ANSI A21.5. The polyethylene wrap shall be V-Bio <br />enhanced. It shall consist of three (3) layers of co-extruded linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), <br />fused into a single thickness of not less than eight (8) mils. The inside surface of the polyethylene wrap <br />to be in contact with the pipe exterior shall be infused with a blend of anti-microbial biocide to mitigate <br />microbiologically influenced corrosion and a volatile corrosion inhibitor to control galvanic corrosion. <br />The wrap shall be overlapped one (1) foot in each direction at joints and secured in place around the <br />pipe. Wrap at tap locations shall be taped tightly prior to tapping. Contractor shall make all necessary <br />repairs to the wrap following tapping operations. <br />5-2.4 JOINT RESTRAINT <br />Retainer Glands shall be wedge action. The length of restraint shall be determined by the Design <br />Engineer. <br />Concrete thrust blocks shall only be used if designed and certified by a Registered Professional <br />Engineer registered in the State of Indiana. <br />5-2.5 MAIN LINE VALVES <br />5-2.5 (a) GATE VALVE <br />Resilient seated gate valves shall be Clow, Mueller, or Kennedy epoxy-coated, resilient <br />wedge, open right, designed for 200 psi working pressure, and meeting the requirement of <br />AWWA C509. Valves shall be bronze non-rising stem, MJ, two (2) inch square operating <br />nut for vertical installation with two (2) O-ring stem seals, and rubber-coated or rubber-sealed <br />gate. Valves shall be Mueller, Clow, or Kennedy. <br />5-2.5 (b) BUTTERFLY VALVES <br />Water main valves with sixteen (16) inch diameters and larger shall be butterfly type valves. <br />Butterfly valves shall conform to AWWA C504 – Rubber Seated Butterfly Valves. <br />5-2.5 (c) INSERT VALVE <br />Insert valve shall comply with AWWA C509 or AWWA C515. Insert valve shall have a ductile <br />iron body and have a resilient seated wedge for closure. Insert valve shall not be placed on water <br />mains larger than twelve (12) inches in diameter and at the discretion of the Water Works <br />Department. The insert valve shall be EZ Valve System by Advanced Technologies, Inc. or <br />approved equal. <br />5-2.5 (d) TEMPORARY LINE STOP VALVE <br />Temporary line stop valve shall be Hydra-Stop or approved equal. After the intended use of the <br />temporary line stop valve, remove the valve mechanism and plug water tight with the Hydra-Stop <br />completion plug and completion blind flange.
