REGULAR MEETING <br />DECEMBER 8, 2003 <br />WHEREAS, the Common Council notes that Loretta J. Duda's service to the community <br />as City Clerk followed eight (8) distinguished years of service as a Council Member at Large on the <br />South Bend Common Council; and <br />WHEREAS, some of the many duties carried out by the City Clerk include certifying <br />-- documents, administering "Oaths of office ", preparing legal advertisements and notices, maintaining <br />the South Bend Municipal Code, maintaining all records of the South Bend Common Council, <br />attending all regular and special meetings of the Council, overseeing the Ordinance Violations <br />Bureau, and performing marriages; and <br />WHEREAS, at the end of eight (8) years of service as City Clerk, Loretta J. Duda, has far <br />exceeded her office's program goals of serving as a "resource of information and referral; to serve <br />as historian; store and preserve records for future generations "; and as Ordinance Violations Clerk <br />for the City's Ordinance Violations Bureau she and her staff has more than met the bureau's goal <br />of collecting ordinance violations, fines and penalties. <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY <br />OF SOUTH BEND, INDIANA, AS FOLLOWS: <br />Section I. On behalf of all of the citizens of South Bend, Indiana, the Common Council <br />hereby publicly honors the CITY CLERK LORETTA J. DUDA for eight (8) dedicated years of <br />service to the South Bend community as City Clerk. <br />Section II. The Common Council commends CITY CLERK LORETTA J. DUDA for hiring <br />a staff who have been professional in assisting her in carrying out the multi- faceted duties in the <br />Office of the City Clerk and the Ordinance Violations Bureau. <br />Section III. The South Bend Common Council wishes Loretta and her husband, Dan, many <br />wonderful years together as she returns to the private sector, and hopes that she will have many <br />memorable rounds of golf where she beats par or gets a hole in one. <br />Section IV. This Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and after its adoption by <br />the Common Council and approval by the Mayor. <br />s /James Aranowski, First District <br />s /Charlotte D. Luecke, Mayor <br />Councilmember Roland Kelly made the presentation for this Resolution by reading it in its entirety <br />and presenting it to City Clerk Loretta Duda. <br />A Public Hearing was held on the Resolution at this time. <br />There was no one present wishing to speak to the Council either in favor of or in opposition to this <br />Resolution. <br />City Clerk Loretta Duda stated that she believes that the quickest way to get a lot of good done for <br />a lot of people is through politics and service. She stated that the work that is accomplished by a <br />Councilmember, or a Department Head or an elected official is done for the community.
