Downtown South Bend to Notre Dame Trail
Scope of Services
05/30/23
O:\Proposals\_Indiana\Governmental\City of South Bend\2023\P23-0011 General Proposals\ND to DTSB Trail\ND to DTSB Trail - Scope of Services.docx
intersection.
5. Provide conceptual design of trail along the south side of Madison Street from East
Bank Trail to Hill Street.
6. Any bricks encountered during excavation will be salvaged, palletized, and delivered
to the City.
7. All streets and trails will be designed in accordance with NACTO Urban Bikeway
Design Guide and AASHTO standards. Trails and sidewalks will be designed for ADA
compliance.
8. Intersections will be designed using the guide prepared by Site Design Group and
recommended improvements for Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary nodes. A raised
intersection is anticipated at each Primary and Secondary nodes and raised multi-use
trail crossings at each Tertiary node.
9. A new storm sewer network will be designed and incorporated in the proposed plans.
The inlets will be spaced to accommodate the 10 year 30 minute time of
concentration. The storm sewer pipe will be designed to the same 10 year 30 minute
time of concentration. An outlet for the proposed storm sewer will be identified during
discussions with the City.
10. It is anticipated that the existing water main throughout the project limits is aging and
in need of replacement. A new water main matching the size of the existing water
main, with a minimum 8 diameter, will be designed and included in the proposed
plans. All water services will be replaced from the water main to the right of way.
11. The City will review the condition of the existing sanitary sewer. The scope of this
project will include design of a new sanitary sewer or lining of the existing sewer.
12. A planting plan will be prepared showing proposed tree locations and species. Tree
species on the City approved list will be selected with consideration to the width of
each tree lawn and appropriate aesthetics for the area.
13. Hardscape improvements will be included at intersections using the guide previously
prepared by Site Design Group.
14. New lighting will be designed within the project limits. Light poles and fixtures will be
selected to match the adjacent lighting along Campeau Street and the East River
Bank area. Existing light poles will be identified to determine if they can be removed.
15. Pavement marking and signage will be designed in accordance with the Indiana
MUTCD. Both pavement marking and signage will be required for trail and sidewalk
crossings at all streets.
16. A maintenance of traffic plan will be prepared for the project. During Phase I, it is
anticipated that Notre Dame Avenue will be closed to through traffic using phased
construction. During Phase II, it is anticipated that both Hill Street and South Bend
Avenue will be closed to through traffic during phased construction. Detour routes will
be established for each road closure. Design will include maintaining pedestrian
traffic using temporary access measures and detours as necessary.

F. Plan Development:
