South Bend Redevelopment Commission
Rescheduled Regular Meeting -June 25, 2008
6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.)
A. Public Hearing
(1) continued...
said in his address, $268M. How many
minorities worked in that area and brought
that money back into South Bend. It's gone.
Now you talk about $3. SM, adding some
more to that, then taking and putting it
somewhere else. Let us wake up. Because
we pay taxes. It is our money anyway. It is.
It belongs to us. You administer it. But it's
our money. And we're not getting a fair
return on our money. We never do. But that
needs to change. That's all. Thank you.
GEORGE LANE: Chairman and CEO of
Citizens for the Accountability for
Government, and that's just what it means,
being accountable to the citizens. What I see
here today and in the past, they are not
accountable to the citizens. There are a lot of
citizens that I talk to and that call me ever
since that meeting at South Bend, you know
that office. After that meeting at South Bend,
we had, my wife kept track of a lot of the
calls, I don't know how many calls that I
have received on this situation. First of all,
people want to know why this was not
advertised about the meeting Monday night. I
have never seen an advertisement that they
were going to hold this meeting about this
redevelopment project that you are going to
talk about. Not one thing. I was on council
for eighteen years in southern Indiana. We
never played that game. Not one time did we
ever play that game. First of all, you ask at
the public hearing, we come to the public
hearing and discuss this and after that you
would take it to the council. I don't know,
25
