This route avoids
a high voltage utility line along the east
side of the road, avoids costly right-of-
way disputes and multiple mid-block
crossings from utilizing the aban-
doned railroad right-of-way, and pro-
vides easiest trail access from public
transportation users. Additionally,
several options are available to cross
to the west side of College Street
safely. By utilizing raised crossings,
for instance, trail users will be more
visible to motorists. Finally, the JPR
team recommends extending the
project one block further to Or-
ange Street to connect into the ex-
isting City of South Bend Bicycle
Network.
Alternate 1: Speed humps
Alternate 2: Tabletop intersection
PROJECT APPROACH: DES. #2201235
City of South Bend | PE Services for Coal Line Trail Phase 3 in the LaPorte District - Des #2201235
Approximate
right-of-way
