The Contractor shall keep all public roadways that are used for hauling excavation or borrow <br />material clean and free of any spillage of material. Said public roadways shall be cleaned on a daily <br />basis. The cost of removal of any spillage shall be included in the unit cost of excavation or bor row <br />material and no further compensation will be made. Failure to comply with this requirement will <br />result in cleaning of the spillage by the Local Public Agency with a back charge of two hundred fifty <br />dollars ($250.00) per occurrence. <br /> <br />4. All excavations and trenches shall be properly braced to furnish safe working conditions in <br />accordance with Federal, State and Local laws, statues and ordinances. The Engineer may order <br />the Contractor to provide additional bracing should there be danger of injury to existing or adjacent <br />structures. Whenever running sand is encountered, close sheeting, well points, or both, shall be <br />used. <br /> <br />5. All excavation, grading and compaction of the subgrade under the pavement by a vibratory roller <br />necessary for the completion of this Project including, but not limited to, shaping of subgrade under <br />pavement and sidewalks, shall be incidental to the contract and not paid for separately, but included <br />in the various bid items. <br /> <br />6. If large rocks or boulders are encountered during excavation for thi s project, these boulders shall <br />be removed. The cost of removing these rocks or boulders will not be paid for directly but shall be <br />included in the cost of Common Excavation. <br /> <br />7. The established pay item for pavement removal shall include removal of concrete or brick <br />pavement, with removal of asphalt pavement overlay being incidental to the cost of the removal of <br />the pavement below. <br /> <br />8. Topsoil shall be spread on all slopes and disturbed areas to a depth of 4 inches. <br /> <br />9. All topsoil on the site shall be stockpiled and re-used. The cost for removal, stockpiling and re-use <br />will not be paid for directly but shall be included in the cost of Common Excavation. <br /> <br />10. The Contractor shall field verify the location of all utilities prior to beginning work. <br /> <br />11. All excavation, backfill, and compaction in lifts for pipe construction shall be incidental to the cost <br />of the established pipe construction pay items as bid. <br /> <br />12. Measurement and Payment <br /> <br />a. Payment for all costs of “Additional Common Excavation, Undistributed” shall be only for <br />specific neat line volumes as approved by the Engineer on a case by case basis for any <br />common excavation required during the work which is not included in any established pay item <br />including the cost of all materials, equipment, tools, labor, transport ation, operations, and all <br />other incidentals, shall be paid for on a cubic yard basis for all parts under the pay item: <br />
