TEAM PROJECT APPROACH RELEVANT EXPERIENCE 10HWC ENGINEERING | CITY OF SOUTH BEND: INSPECTION OF OLIVE STREET PHASE 2 FIRM OVERVIEW <br />RELEVANT EXPERIENCE: HWC <br />HWC was responsible for full time inspection of the Lafayette Avenue project in Terre Haute, <br />Indiana. This project includes reconstruction of Lafayette Ave and portions of 25th Street <br />between Fort Harrison Road to Haythorne Avenue, approximately 1.1 miles. <br />The project included the relocation of the centerline of the existing roadway, installation of a <br />new Storm Sewer system with detention pond, installation of concrete curb and gutter, concrete <br />sidewalks, ADA ramps, concrete approaches, and a center turn lane. <br />A new traffic signal was installed at the 25th Street and Lafayette Avenue intersection, and new <br />traffic signal loops were sawed in at Fort Harrison Road and Haythorne Avenue. <br />The existing railroad crossing was widened and updated from a two lane signalized crossing <br />to a wider crossing with signalized lights and gates with a center curb island. Coordination <br />between the Indiana Railroad and their Subcontractor RJ Cormann for the closure of Lafayette <br />Avenue and Detour Route was essential for a smooth transition during construction. <br />This LPA project was funded by the City of Terre Haute and INDOT. Project cost was $7.99 <br />million. <br />HWC was responsible for full time inspection of the reconstruction of MLK <br />Jr. Boulevard in Anderson, Indiana. The scope of this project included the <br />reconstruction of MLK Jr. Boulevard and corresponding intersections at 67th Street <br />and 73rd Street. In several sections of the project, existing PCCP was removed and <br />replaced. In other areas, full depth PCCP patching was performed. These areas <br />were then milled 1.5” and 4.5” of new asphalt was installed. To help alleviate <br />drainage issues along this corridor, the finished intersection elevations were raised <br />3”. Other project dynamics included removal and replacement of the existing <br />concrete center curb, replacement of select sections of concrete curb and gutter, <br />and installation of new signal detector housings and corresponding signal loops. <br />Construction cost was $2.29 million and the project was completed in the summer of <br />2021.
