South Bend Redevelopment Commission <br />Regular Meeting -June 6, 2008 <br />6. NEW BUSINESS (CONT.) <br />B. Airport Economic Development Area <br />(1) continued... <br />for LaSalle Square and a much needed <br />answer to the documented need for <br />convenient and affordable health care service <br />provision on the West Side. <br />Community Health Partners will be a 501 <br />(c)(3) created to construct and operate <br />Bendix Family Physicians, a fully staffed <br />physician's office underwritten by private <br />donations and the respective hospitals on an <br />ongoing basis. Their request to the <br />Commission is participation in the physical <br />redevelopment of the building and site, to <br />update and ready the building as a vanilla <br />box to be equipped with state of the art <br />laboratory and diagnostic equipment, exam <br />rooms and a classroom for community health <br />education programming. <br />Margo DeMont, Community Health <br />Enhancement Executive Director with <br />Memorial Hospital spoke about her <br />excitement for the project. The State of <br />Indiana has identified the west side of South <br />Bend as medically underserved. In addition <br />to medical services, they intend to also offer <br />education on health management. <br />Sister Laureen Painter, Vice President of <br />Mission Integration with Saint Joseph <br />Regional Medical Center spoke about the <br />chronic disease management topics they <br />intend to address through the facility: <br />obesity, congestive heart failure, diabetes, <br />smoking cessation programs, etc. She noted <br />that this facility is the result of a community <br />4 <br />
